Hi Hiram,
Here to inform OTA update for November does not work with your guide. I had to flash stock rom from mi website using MiFlashTool, update latest Nov security update via OTA, unlock, and re-root again. It took me about 2 hours to get the process done. Although quite a hassle but looking forward to any easier solution in (if any) =D

Thanks for your prompt reply. Much appreciated.
Pertaining to instructions:
4. Change permissions from read-only (r/o) to read-write (r/w). For this, select the “Mount R/W” at the top of the explorer..

I’m unable to locate the said “Mount R/W” using ES File Explorer. Hence, I have made follow changes to “System” folder properties with following Permissions:
Read Write Execute
Owner: checked checked checked
Group: checked checked checked
Other: checked checked checked

Will it be okay?

Hi TQ,

You should get the November security update anytime this week. (The patches are released on the 15th of every month — but this time it’s late.) Nobody has received the update yet, so it’s not just you.

And whether you can still receive OTA updates after following this guide; the answer’s, yes.

After installing the update, you may lose root. (You can always re-root though.) Other than that, the patch should work without any issues.

I’ve just followed your guide and successfully installed GCam.
My question is that is it confirmed that we can still receive future OTA with following your guide? My latest security patch is on 1st October 2017? Am I missing November patch?

Please advise.

That new apk is “GCam5.1.014-Arnova8G2-v9.1″

The one that you’d installed is ” GCam5.1.014-Arnova8G2-v8.1″

Your Gcam keeps crashing, huh?

If you’ve done every exact thing as suggested by the guide, then you may have to replace the Gcam apk with another version.

Hi there,

Using a rooted phone shouldn’t scare you, Sam.

As long as you don’t make some drastic system changes that you’re not sure about after rooting — you should be fine.

And yes, you’d still be able to install OTA updates with your rooted phone — without any problem at all.
