Here are the detailed instructions on how you can easily install RR ROM on your Redmi 6A device, including all required patches and additional software you might need during the process.

Already using Resurrection ROM on your phone? Share your thoughts and suggestions in the comments. We’ve heard a lot of positive comments about this ROM.

How to install Resurrection Remix Android 9 ROM on Redmi 6A (Cactus)

First we’ll start with listing working and not working features:

USSD works.

Double Tap to Wake works fine.

Bluetooth works .

Calls and SMS works fine on the first SIM slot, while it seems like you can’t send SMS via second SMS slot. Probably might be fixed in the future ROM versions.

USB fully supported.

4G works perfectly.

What’s required?

Suggested TWPR version installed: TWRP-3.3.0-0423-OMFG-mod_b6

SD-card at least 2GB/4GB.

Complete understanding of what you’re doing and what you’re trying to achieve.

Remember, you do everything at your own risk! We are not responsible for any possible issues with your device.

In general, this is a very good ROM version, it works without lags and has everything that is required for everyday use.

Required software and tools for Redmi 6A

Here are download links for everything that would be required for custom ROM installation:

_Oreo-Pie_Dolby_Digital_Plus_v.6.3-_UNiTY__Light__by_repey6-20190405.zip

boot_9_mb.img

Certification_Patch+v2.zip

dt2w.zip

fix.zip

lib_magisk.zip

lib2.zip

LTE.zip

Magisk-v19.3.zip

open_gapps_debug_logs.tar.gz

open_gapps-arm-9.0-pico-20190613.zip

Start_Trable-9.0.zip

system-190406-arm-aonly-vanilla-nosu.img

TWRP-3.3.0-0423-OMFG-mod_b6.zip

vendor.img

YouTube_Vanced_-_Magisk_Repo-v14.21.54(b01.40.20).zip

So, let’s finally start the tutorial:

Boot in custom Recovery.

Go to “Wipe” > “Format Data” > Type “yes” to confirm formatting.

Reboot into recovery.

Go to “Wipe” > “Advanced Wipe” and select everything, except for MicroSD and OTG.

Reboot into recovery while we don’t have any OS installed.

Go to “Install” > “Select storage” > “Micro SD” > Press “Install Image” > select vendor.img > select Vendor Image from the list > swipe to confirm.

Next, you’ll need to flash “boot_9_mb.img“, this time instead of “Vendor Image” select “Boot”.

Get back into Main Menu > go to “Advanced” > “Flash Cust” > Swipe to confirm.

Install system-190406-arm-aonly-vanilla-nosu.img as “System image”.

Reboot into recovery.

Go to “Wipe” > “Advanced Wipe” > press “System” > “Repair or Change File System” > “Resize File System” > Swipe to confirm.

Now install GApps. We would recommend Pico version.

Install certificate patch by adding the following files: lib_magisk, Magisk, fix, lib2, LTE, dt2w.

Reboot into system.

The first startup will take around 5 minutes, your phone will reboot a few times.

In case you’ve entered the recovery ignoring the encryption of “data” partition, then you’ll need to flash Start_Trable-9.0.zip archive. If the phone stuck on the main screen, just reboot.

To fix USSD issue, boot into recovery after you’ve installed RR ROM already and mount “system” partition.

Go to “Advanced” > “Terminal” and run the following commands:

cd system

echo “persist.sys.radio.ussd.fix=true” >> build.prop

Optionally you can install YouTube vanced from Magisk Repository.

Don’t forget to disable YouTube automatic updates, otherwise, it will replace the YouTube vanced.

We can recommend to uninstall Audio FX and replace it with Dolby Atmos.

Boot into Recovery.

Mount “System” partition.

Use some advanced file manager application to delete “/system/priv-app/audiofx”, open the following location, click on the folder icon, then delete and swipe to confirm.

Start the phone, open “Magisk” > “Modules” > Press “+” > Select “Dolby Atmos” > Reboot device.

If you operate either a Xiomi Redmi 6 or 6 A which are also known as cereus (Redmi 6) and cactus (Redmi 6A), then you’re in for some great news!

What
is GSI?

GSI is an acronym for Generic System Image. The tag Generic is used to reveal that software images can be uploaded on any Treble-enabled device (both Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A are enabled) regardless of the manufacturer.

You can easily find a list of devices supported for Android Pie 9.0 GSI. Full list of all GSI supported ROMs can be found here.

Just the other day, the ROM development community fully boosted Custom ROM development thanks to the Project treble input.

Custom Android Firmware for Redmi 6A (cactus)

We’ll start with listing few Custom ROMs and then we’ll continue with GSI firmware.

Download AEX 5.8 for Redmi 6A

Developed by Utkarsh.

Very clean and fast Custom ROM with a lot of positive reviews. Very similar to AOSP, but comes with a lot of additional features and settings.

How to install AEX 5.8?

Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.

Wipe Data, Dalvik, System, and Cache.

Install the downloaded ROM .zip archive.

Install vendor file through TWRP:

Optionally proceed with GAPPS installation.

Install Magisk.

Reboot into TWRP once again.

Install additional SMS and Call fix.

Reboot once again and use Magisk to install DolbyAtmos fix.

Final reboot and you can continue using your freshly installed firmware.

Downloads:

Download ROM: link

Vendor: Vendor_Global_Stable_10.3.2.0.zip

SMS and Call Fix: SMS_And_Call_Fix.zip

DolbyAtmos: DolbyAtmos_for_Oreo_Black_n_Cheese_Edition_Unity_20180325.zip

Download Cardinal Aosp 5.8.3 for Redmi 6A

Developed by Utkarsh.

Fast firmware version with advanced settings based on AOSP. For the installation tutorial, please check the steps above and just repeat the same steps.

Download ROM: link

Download Pixel Experience for Redmi 6A

Developed by Utkarsh, Wulan17, Samar, Zain Arhabi, Phhusson.

Another good ROM which we could suggest for a try. It is build on Android Oreo 8.1, comes with in-built Gapps. Doesn’t support VoLTE at the moment, probably will be fixed in feature versions.

Download ROM: link

Dolby Fix: Oreo_Pie_Dolby_Digital_Plus_v_6.zip

EvolutionX 9.0 for Redmi 6A

EvolutionX-9.0-arm-a-GAPPS – Awesome and very fast ROM version with tons of customizable features. Comes with inbuilt GAPPS, no need to flash cert files. Required vendor version 10.2.8.

Download ROM: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397919165

RESURRECTION REMIX & AOSP ROMs for Redmi 6A

Please check out the following posts to find download links and installation tutorials for these custom ROMs. We decided that these ROMs deserve separate posts and guides.

GSI / Project Treble ROMs for Redmi 6A

You can check this source for different GSI ROMs: https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=282119. Most of these ROMs are tested and work pretty good. Keep in mind they all share the same issues: call volume regulation isn’t working, wifi hotspot and USB modem aren’t working as well.

How To Install Lineage OS 15.1

Thanks to the latest Lineage OS 15.1 release, you can upgrade your phone’s firmware to match up Android 8.1 Oreo. The guide below will take you the steps you need to install the Lineage OS 15.1 for whichever device (cereus or cactus).

A
distinguished XDA developer created the GSI Lineage OS 15.1 build and
together with the team behind Lineage OS made it possible to upgrade
the firmware.

The
ROM is based on the Android 8.1 Oreo Os, also known as modular ROM.

To
install the software (Lineage Os 15.1) on your Xiaomi Redmi and Redmi
6A your smartphone should have both the latest TWRP Recovery and the
Bootloader Unlocked.

Having the two installed makes it easy to download and install the Lineage OS 15.1 on your phone. For a successful install, follow our guide on the best steps to take on the upgrade process here.

Lineage
OS 15.1 and Features Explained

Lineage
OS 15.1 is the newest Stock Custom Firmware that mirrors the stock
Android 8.1 Oreo Android Open Source Project.

Together
with the official Android 8.1 features, the Lineage platform comes
with a plethora of features as well as customization options that
will elevate your smartphone beyond the Stock firmware element.

Lineage
OS has coined a name in the aftermarket firmware space. The platform
is courtesy of the team that is credited with creating cyanogen.

Currently,
in the Android domain, Lineage Operating System serves as the best
Custom ROM that comes with plenty of features.

Users will be happy to know that the Lineage Operating System 15.1 for cereus (Xiaomi Redmi 6) comes with a weekly as well as a nightly update to fix any bugs or issues. You can as well download and use it as your daily driver!

Android 8.0 Custom Roms for Mi A2

Right now, we only have one good Android 8 ROM released. It’s Mokee and it is based on LOS engine.

Mokee OS

Latest update 15.12.18

OpenGapps | Recommended TWRP | HEX Kernel

Download link

How to install Mokee OS?

Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.

Go to “Install” > Locate downloaded archive and flash it. It will be installed on inactive partition.

If you’ve previously installed stock Android 9 firmware version, then you also need to flash HEX kernel together with Mokee OS.

How to flash Custom ROM on Mi A2?

Here’s a general tutorial which suits pretty much for every ROM version built on Android 9.

First of all you’ll need is an unlocked bootloader, TWRP (Pitch Black for example) for temporary boot and backup of your personal data. After that just follow the steps below:

Boot your Mi A2 smartphone in fastboot mode.

Open command line and perform the general reset with “fastboot -w” command, this is required, so make sure you save all files from phone internal memory.

Now we’ll temporary boot into TWRP with the following command, where “twrp.img” is the name of the TWRP you’re going to use.

fastboot boot twrp.img

Connect your phone to PC and copy all required files for flashing via MTP: ROM files, Magisk and Gapps.

Flash ROM (it will be installed on inactive partition)

Reboot from TWRP into the opposite partition.

Boot into fastboot mode again and start TWRP once again:

fastboot boot twrp.img

Install Magisk, you can use ADB Sideload again. On the first startup your phone will automatically reboot after the logo appeared on the screen.

Now reboot into TWRP for the last time and install latest Gapps without doing any additional wipes.
