Start charging your device and carefully read the manual a few times until you’ll understand each part, by doing this you’ll reduce the chances of getting hard / soft bricked device in the end.

First all of all, you must have unbricked device. Next step is to install any available TWRP Recovery version:

• TWRP 3.3.1-32 by mauronofrio at XDA
• PitchBlackRecoveryProject

To boot into recovery turn off your device, then press and hold volume up and press the power button. After the display lights up, release the power button and keep holding volume up button until your phone boots into Recovery mode.

How to install Custom ROM on K20 Pro / Mi 9T Pro (Raphael)?

If you already have the Custom ROM installed and you want to update / re-install the same Custom ROM version, boot into Recovery, do Wipe “Cache” & “Dalvik”, re-install Magisk for root and if you’re using f2fs filesystem, then you’ll need to install the following patch (will work if you encrypted data partition):

• TWRP-3.3.1-1101-REDMI_K20PRO-CN-wzsx150.zip
• fstab_patch_F2FS_Cache_NoBarrier_NoEncryption.zip

If you already have Custom ROM installed, but want to flash a different one, then follow these steps:

1. Boot into Recovery mode.
2. Wipe > “Data”, “Cache”, “Dalvik”.
3. Download and install the corresponding to your region firmware.
4. Install Custom ROM.
5. Flash Gapps (in case they’re missing in the ROM you’ve chosen).
6. Flash Magisk (optionally).
7. Also you can flash DFE if you want to.
   • Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_01.19.2020.zip
8. Reboot.
9. Enjoy newly installed firmware.

In case your device doesn’t load or bootloop, you can try the following solution. Boot into recovery and format the “Data” partition (not to be confused with “wipe”!). Pay attention that this will delete all personal data on your device, so make sure to do a backup with your PC before doing this if you care about the data.

If you have official MIUI ROM installed and you want to switch to Custom firmware, then here’s the instructions on how to achieve that:

Keep in mind, that you firstly need to unlock the Bootloader on your device before proceeding. Pay attention that all data will be removed during the installation process, so make sure you do all the required backups (you can use Migrate or Titanium backup apps). Save the backup in a safe place.

1. Turn off your device and then boot into Recovery.
2. Go to “Wipe” in the menu and wipe “Cache”, “Dalvik”, “Data” and “System”.
3. Download and install the corresponding to your region firmware.
4. Install Custom ROM.
5. Flash Gapps (in case they’re missing in the ROM you’ve chosen).
6. Flash Magisk (optionally).
7. Also you can flash DFE if you want to.
   1. Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_01.19.2020.zip
8. Reboot.
9. Enjoy newly installed firmware.

If your device seems to be bricked or went in to the bootloop, try the solution described above. It helps in pretty much every possible case.

How to flash GSI ROM on Redmi 7A?

1. Install Magisk, enable ROOT and flash patched boot. Read the full tutorial.
2. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery. You must have GSI ROM archive and everything else copied to SD Card already.
   1. Wipe > Format Data > Confirm
   2. Wipe > Advanced Wipe > select “System, Dalvik, Cache”.
   3. Go to “Install” > “Install IMG”, locate downloaded ROM archive, select “System”.
   4. Go to “Install” once again and flash Permissiver.zip file.
3. Reboot.
4. Enter the following commands in the terminal (download vbmeta.img)

fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img

fastboot reboot

That’s all. Your phone should reboot into the system. Once again, to remind you, we’re not responsible for any possible issues. Make sure you have backups and fastboot ROM version on your PC in case you’ll need to restore your phone. We do not advice to start flashing if you don’t have enough experience working with ADB and Fastboot.

How to fix screen brightness issues?

• Enable USD Debugging.
• Start terminal on your PC and enter the following command:

adb shell
su
setprop persist.sys.qcom-brightness $(cat /sys/class/leds/lcd-backlight/max_brightness)

Issue should be fixed.

How to enable device certification on GSI ROM?

Keep in mind, if you see certification request on the setup stage, just complete it. If you get annoying notifications, you can just disable these.

What is GSI?

GSI is an acronym for Generic System Image. The tag Generic is used to reveal that software images can be uploaded on any Treble-enabled device (both Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A are enabled) regardless of the manufacturer.

Very clean and fast Custom ROM with a lot of positive reviews. Very similar to AOSP, but comes with a lot of additional features and settings.

How to install AEX 5.8?

1. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.
2. Wipe Data, Dalvik, System, and Cache.
3. Install the downloaded ROM .zip archive.
4. Install vendor file through TWRP:
5. Optionally proceed with GAPPS installation.
6. Install Magisk.
7. Reboot into TWRP once again.
8. Install additional SMS and Call fix.
9. Reboot once again and use Magisk to install DolbyAtmos fix.
10. Final reboot and you can continue using your freshly installed firmware.

Android 9 Custom Firmware for Redmi Note 6 Pro (Tulip)

Details on how to flash LOS based ROMs

With the latest changes in Google and LineageOS teams, the new ROMs can be only flashed on encrypted “data” partition.

When switching from stock MIUI ROM doesn’t format “data” partition, cause it’s encrypted by default. Simply complete all other steps.

In case “data” partition is already decrypted, then simply flash any MIUI ROM version, you don’t even need to reboot into it. Also you can do this without any reinstalls. Open “Settings” > “Security” > “Encrypt data”.

Pay attention, that if the encryption is enabled, you may require a password when entering TWRP, don’t worry, this is how it should be.

How to switch from MIUI to Custom ROM?

Important notice: there’s no built-in firmware in Custom ROMs, so it won’t change the current version of the bootloader and modem. This means that it won’t get bricked device.

1. When you first time flash the Custom ROM, data partition will be erased, so make sure you make all the required backups. We can recommend Titanium Backup or MyBackup app. Photos and music you can simply save on your PC.
   1. If you do backup in TWRP remember to remove any locks.
2. Download Custom ROM you want to flash and the corresponding version of Gapps. Move these to phone internal memory.
3. Boot into TWRP, make full wipe (system, data, internal memory, caches), reboot in recovery once again. After reboot, format “data” partition. Reboot once again. If you’re installing LOS based ROM, no need to format “data” partition.
4. After all the steps above we have crystal clear device and we can continue with ROM and Gapps installations.
5. In TWRP open “Install” menu, locate downloaded ROM .zip archive and GApps, add additional patches in order in case you have some.
6. Confirm with swipe.
7. Wait around 10 minutes until installation is fully finished and your phone reboots into the system.
8. Enjoy newly installed ROM.

How to flash Custom ROM on Mi Mix 2 with TWRP Custom Recovery

Let’s assume you’ve already unlocked bootloader and successfully installed TWRP on your Mi Mix 2 device. Now you’ve selected Custom ROM you want to try and ready to proceed with installation:

1. Download ROM you want to flash.
   • Select and download the Google Apps (optionally).
2. Copy downloaded ROM .zip archive and other patches and additional tools to phone internal memory.
3. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery to backup your data and wipe all required partitions.
   1. In TWRP main menu tap on “Backup” and proceed with system backup.
   2. Tap “Wipe” and select the following partitions: Dalvik/ART Cache, System, Cache & Data.
   3. Swipe to confirm wiping.
4. Go back to TWRP main menu and select “Install”.
5. Locate downloaded .zip archive and follow the instructions on screen to flash ROM files.
   1. Optionally you can install all additional files like Gapps and Magisk archives. Pay attention that if you’re going to install Gapps, you must do it before the first boot into system.
   2. If you need to have root enabled on LineageOS based ROM then install addonsu application for arm64, otherwise use any other method you can find in different sources.
6. After ROM installation is finished, select “Reboot” > “Reboot into system” in the TWRP main menu.

How to install Resurrection Remix on Whyred?

1. You must have TWRP Custom Recovery installed.
2. Download Gapps (ARM64, 8.1 Nano / Pico for Oreo).
3. Download Magisk if you need to enable root.
4. Copy Gapps and downloaded ROM archive to phone memory.
5. Boot into TWRP and go to Wipe menu.
6. Select the following partitions: Data, system, cache and Dalvik Cache.
7. Confirm wipe.
8. Go back to main menu and tap on “Install”.
9. Install ROM .zip archive, then .zip with Gapps and Magisk.
10. Reboot your device.

How to flash Custom ROM on Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (Whyred)

Here’s a guide on how you can install custom ROM on Whyred, this exact tutorial works if you’ve got MIUI official ROM on your device and you want to try Lineage or AOSP-based ROMs. Please pay attention that custom ROMs doesn’t have it’s own firmware and because of that it doesn’t make any changes to ARB or modem files. Less chance to get a bricked device.

1. When you flash Custom ROM all personal data will be deleted, so if you need to save something to save, then use ® Titanium Backup or any other similar app. If you want to do backup in TWRP, make sure you’ve removed all passwords and screen locks.
2. Download the ROM you want to install, Gapps (according to the Android version you’ll be installing).
3. Now we’ll boot into TWRP Custom Recovery and make complete wipes of the system (system, data, internal memory, cache’s), after wipe reboot into TWRP and make data format (we’ll do this to decrypt data, because by default it is encrypted), reboot once again. If you’re installing Custom ROM version which is built on LOS, then you don’t need to do data formatting.
4. After all the actions above we’ll have a completely clear device and now we can proceed with Custom ROM, Gapps installations etc.
5. First of all you’ll need to install Custom ROM. In the TWRP main menu tap on “Install”, add .zip archive with ROM files, then include root patches and Gapps if necessary. Confirm installation with swipe.
6. Now we wait 5-10 minutes until the installation is completed. Your device will automatically reboots into new system.

Additional information for LOS based Custom ROMs

In regarding with new Google requests and LineageOS team, the LOS based ROMs can now be installed only on encrypted data partition. If you updating from official MIUI ROM, then simply install LOS based ROM without data partition decryption.

If you already have data partition with decryption, then you can try installing official MIUI ROM on your device or encrypt it in settings if you can, just go to “Settings” > “Security” > “Encrypt data”.

Install the TWRP (Custom) Recovery

Having Custom Recovery (TWRP) on your device is a must-have tool for rooting your Android device and installing all kind mods or ROMs (firmwares). Here is how to do that.

1. First, enter Fastboot Mode on your Mi device, by holding together Volume Down + Power.
2. Download the twrp-3.2.1-0-chrin.img file from the following link. Then store it in a dedicated folder on your computer.
3. Open the folder where you have stored the twrp.img file. Now, launch a command window in there. You can do that by pressing Shift + Right Click on an empty white space inside the folder. Then choose Open Command Window Here or Open PowerShell Window Here.
4. In the command window type the following terminal command line:
   fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-chiron.img

Note: Do not restart your phone. In opposite the original Xiaomi recovery might overwrite your custom TWRP recovery.

5. Boot your Mi device into Recovery Mode (3 possible ways).
   1. Enter the following terminal command in the command line:

fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-0-chiron.img

1. 2. Hold down together Volume Up + Power until the Mi logo shows up. Then, release Power but keep pressing Volume Up until you see the recovery.
   3. Hold down together Volume Up + Volume Down + Power until you see the recovery screen.

Root Your Mi Mix 2

Once you have TWRP installed, rooting your Mi device is a piece of cake. Just follow the steps below.

1. First, download the latest Magisk from the following link.
2. Store the Magisk file you just downloaded into your phone memory (internal memory or SD card).
3. Boot your device into Recovery Mode (see the step 5 from the previous section).
4. While in the TWRP interface, navigate to the location where you stored the Magisk file.
5. Flash the Magisk file.
6. Restart your Mi device.

Flash Custom Firmware on Mi Mix 2

Now, when you have root access on your Mi device, you can install pretty much any custom firmware (ROM) you want. The installation procedure is the same. Here it is in detailed steps.

1. First, download the ROM (custom firmware) you want to flash. Make sure you choose one that is for your specific Mi device (in your case for Mi Mix 2). Here are some of the most popular ROMS.
   1. Lineage OS – download here.
      Note: In case you lose the root access, and you want to keep it after installing Lineage OS, download the addonus-15.1-arm64-signed.zip file from the following link. After you install the ROM flash addonus-15.1-arm64-signed.zip using TWRP, and you will get the root access.
   2. AICP – download here.
   3. OMNI – download here.
      Note: In case you lose the root access, and you want to keep it after installing AICP or OMNI ROMs, flash the Magisk file again using TWRP (as you did in the Rooting section from above).
2. Now, download Google Apps.
   Select the right Platform and Android version of your ROM as well as the variant you want to use. Then click the download button, and store the downloaded file into your phone memory.
3. Enter Recovery Mode (check the step 5 from the previous section if you do not know how to do that).
4. While in the TWRP interface, wipe the following: Dalvin / Art Cache, Data, Cache. (DO NOT wipe Internal Storage).
5. Now, go back to the main TWRP screen and flash the ROM you previously downloaded.
6. Once the installation finishes, flash the Google Apps file you downloaded before.
7. If you want to keep the root access, flash addonus-15.1-arm64-signed.zip (in case you installed Lineage OS) or the Magisk file (in case you installed another ROM).
8. Reboot your Mi device and enjoy your new custom ROM.

How to flash Custom ROM on Mi Note 3 (Jason)?

1. Reboot into TWRP Custom Recovery.
2. Go to “Wipe” > “Advanced Wipe” and select everything except “Internal Storage”, then swipe to confirm wipe. This will lead to factory reset and complete data removal, so don’t forget about backups! After you’ve boot into freshly installed ROM go to “MIUI” folder in phone internal memory and delete all related MIUI files and previously made backups. You can copy these files to another storage if you’re planning to rollback to previous system.
3. Get back to TWRP main menu.
4. Download the Custom ROM you want to flash and Google Apps (Select ARM64), start your phone in custom recovery mode and connect to PC. Move downloaded ROM to phone internal memory.
5. In TWRP select “Install”, locate downloaded ROM archive, press “add more zips” and add Gapps archive. Swipe to confirm flashing.
6. After installation is completed, press “Reboot system” and wait until your phone reboots. First startup may take around 15-20 minutes.

How to install TWRP Custom Recovery on Xiaomi Mi Note 3

1. Download and unpack ADB fastboot tools to “C:\adb”.
2. Download TWRP Recovery and copy downloaded TWRP .img file to the same folder with ADB fastboot files.
3. Turn your phone in fastboot mode. Turn it off and press “Volume Down” and “Power” buttons at the same time until you see fastboot logo appear on the screen.
