Warning! This instructions can lead to a bootloop in random cases. Proceed at your own risk!

Before proceed with the following tutorial, here are some recommendations for you. First of all, you’ll need to synchronise your device with Mi Account and disable drivers signature check on your Windows 10 PC. It’s also highly recommended to install ADB and Fastboot drivers on your PC.

Now we are ready to continue with the main tutorial.

How to Install Indian Global Firmware without Unlocking The Bootloader on Redmi Note 9S

1. Download the XiaoMITool V2. We recommend the 9.8.7 version. Here’s a download link: XMT2_Windows_Setup_9.8.7.exe
2. Download Indian Global Recovery ROM .zip archive on your PC.
3. Move the downloaded ROM archive into the folder with XiaoMITool, by default it’s “C:/Xiaomi/XiaomiTool2/res/tmp”.
4. Enable USB debugging in the developers settings on your phone.
5. Connect your device to PC via USB cable and enable file transferring.
6. Start the XiaoMITool.
7. Open XiaoMITool setting and select the region.
8. Close settings and click on “Continue”
9. Wait until the drivers are successfully installed.
10. Select the required mode – “My device works normally I want to mod it.”
11. You should see your device serial code in the list.
12. Press “Select”.
13. Your phone will reboot in the “fastboot” mode.
14. Check the XiaoMITool, then press volume up on your phone to enter the recovery mode on reboot. If this didn’t worked and your phone didn’t reboot in recovery mode automatically, you’ll need to do it manually.
15. Use volume buttons to navigate and select “Connect with MIAssistant” and press “power” button to confirm.
16. Check the XiaoMITool once again if there is any useful information.
17. Wait until the check is completed.
18. If everything is good you’ll see the “Please choose procedure category”. Select the suitable one depending on the ROM you’re using. In our case it is “Official Xiaomi ROM” > “India Stable”.
19. XiaoMITool will require you to enable ADB.
20. Reboot your phone in fastboot mode.
21. Once the firmware is identified and checked, reboot in recovery and enter “Connect with MIAssistant” mode. The flashing process should start on this step.

If you see that installation process is stuck on 90%, don’t panic and just wait, that’s pretty normal. Do not turn off or reboot. In case you see an error at the end or start seeing a bootloop, again don’t panic, reboot into recovery and do a format, then reboot once again.

In this exact post we are going to use Orange Fox Recovery as it seems to be the most suitable one. Also because the Fox Recovery tool works pretty much on every Curtana and Miatol devices.

Flashing Redmi Note 9S using any recovery: TWRP, Orange Fox, PBRP & TRB

So, to begin with, we will need the unlocked bootloader, custom TWRP installed with any working firmware on your device. It’s highly recommended to have an SD card, so we can flash from it, and not from internal memory.

Before starting the flashing process: download all required files firstly. Most important, you’ll need to download a firmware you want to flash. If it’s a ported ROM, make sure it has all required files like “vendor” & “firmware”. Also pay attention when downloading these ROMs, they must be suitable for Curtana device.

If Android versions differ from the currently installed firmware with the one you want to install, then firstly install the firmware which is suitable for this version. It’s recommended to flash the latest versions of firmware. Once you got this done, follow these steps:

1. Boot into recovery and format every partition except SD card and OTG.
2. Format “data” partition by typing “yes”, after this step it’s important to reboot into recovery once again.
3. Find the previously downloaded ROM on your SD card and start the flashing process.
4. If there was “vendor”, then flash in after the main ROM.
5. Setup DM-verity & Permissiver.
6. If there was no error during the installation process, then you can now reboot into the system. If there was any error, repeat the steps once again.

Some ROM versions might show an error that system isn’t installed, simply ignore these type of errors and reboot.

If you got error while flashing any custom rom version, then try flash local ROM firstly and then repeat the same steps above.

You might also notice that the first startup might take longer than usual, it’s ok. Just wait on the loading screen. If your device stuck in the bootloop, then try holding “Volume Up” and “Power” button to start the recovery mode and try those steps:

1. Format “data” partition once again
2. Flash “Magisk.zip”.

Usually we install magisk, new kernel and GAPPS after the first system startup setup.

How to Root Redmi Note 9S without TWRP

We decided to also include here a small and very quick tutorial on how you can enable root on Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S (Curtana) without flashing a custom recovery. You still must have unlocked bootloader firstly.

1. Take the boot.img file from the firmware that you want to flash and patch it with magisk.
2. Reboot your smartphone.
3. Find the patched image in the “download” folder, change the name to “boot” and copy to your PC.
4. Install adb drivers.
5. On Your PC, on C:\ drive the “adb” folder will be created.
6. Move the patched boot file there.
7. Start your phone in fastboot mode, hold “shift” button and right mouse click, open the adb in command line and enter the following command “fastboot flash boot boot.img.”

1. Download the updated ROM version from official MIUI website.
2. Move downloaded ROM to “downloaded_rom” folder in phone internal memory. Create the folder manually if you don’t have one.
3. Open “Updater” application and tap on the three dots icon in the top right corner.
4. Tap on “Choose update package” and locate the previously downloaded ROM.
5. Installation process will start automatically.

By using this method you can also flash Weekly Developer ROM from Stable version (all data will be deleted from your phone). Vice versa won’t work.

How to flash Mi Note 3 to Global Stable ROM from China Stable with locked bootloader

Here’s a tutorial on how you can flash Global ROM on your Xiaomi Mi Note 3 with China Stable without a need to unlock the bootloader. The solution is to use the Chinese version of Mi PC Suite.

1. Download Chinese version of Mi PC Suite: MiInst.exe
2. Download latest Global Stable OTA ROM from here: http://en.miui.com/download-336.html
3. Install MiPCSuite. Open and update it to the latest version (2.3.0.901 at the moment).
4. Turn off your phone with Global Stable ROM and turn it on in recovery assistant mode by pressing “Power” and “Volume Up” buttons.
5. Connect your phone to PC.
6. Phone should be identified in MiPCSuite.
7. The window with 3 buttons should appear, you’ll need to press the first one.
8. Now select previously download OTA Global ROM.
9. The flashing progress won’t be displayed in MiPCSuite, only on phone screen.

11. After flashing is completed, your phone will automatically reboot into system.

There’s might be an issue that you can’t change region, only China is available. Another possible issue of this method is that you won’t be able to use Google Account. The solution is to backup-restore everything from your previous device.

Also you can install VPN on your phone and sync with your account. This will help to get rid of “10008” and “86023” errors.

How to flash any Custom ROM on Redmi 4X (santoni)

1. Before flashing TWRP and Custom ROM on your Redmi 4X device you’ll need to unlock the bootloader. Browse our website for more information, the process of unlocking is pretty similar on every Xiaomi phone.
2. After you’ve successfully unlocked the bootloader, you can process with TWRP Custom Recovery installation. Download and install TWRP using this tutorial.
3. Download Custom ROM you want to flash and copy .zip archive to phone memory. If you’re downloading Custom ROM from XDA thread make sure you also check installation details, there could be some specific actions required.
4. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery and go to “Wipe” menu.

How to flash official MIUI ROM with EDL (fastboot) – Locked / Unlocked bootloader

1. Make sure your phone is charged with at least 80%.
2. Download Official MIUI Fastboot ROM and unpack downloaded ROM in “C:\fastboot”. Make sure ROM files are in this folder, avoid subfolders.
3. Install MiFlash on your PC.
4. Enable “Developer Options”. Go to “Settings” > “About phone” and tap a few times on MIUI version.
5. Now go to “Settings” > “Additional Settings” > “Developer options” > Enable “USB Debugging”.
6. Start MiFlash Tool.
7. Insert USB cable to your PC (do not connect your phone yet).
8. Turn off your phone > press “Volume Up” and “Volume Down” and hold these buttons > now connect it with USB cable.
9. Release the buttons after short vibration signal.
   • If your phone doesn’t vibrate then try pressing “Volume Up” and “Volume Down” as well as “Power” button. After first vibration, release the power button, and then wait for the second vibration signal, after the second one release the volume buttons.
10. In MiFlash press “Refresh”. You should see device port number on the screen.
11. Now press “Select” to locate the folder with fastboot ROM files.
12. Make sure you’ve selected “Clean ALL” option.
13. Now press “Flash” to start flashing your Mi Max Pro phone. If everything was successful in the end you’ll “Success” message. Flashing could take around 15 minutes.
14. Disconnect your phone from PC and turn it on with the “Power” button.

How to flash Custom ROM on Mi Max Pro with locked / unlocked bootloader

If you haven’t previously flashed your phone and have no experience with TWRP, you may first try installing the official MIUI ROM since that is much easier. While Custom ROM installation is a little bit more complicated.

1. Download Custom ROM you want to flash. No need to unpack the .zip archive.
2. Download TWRP Custom Recovery for Mi Max Pro: TWRPMax(32Gb).rar | TWRPMax(64-128Gb).rar
3. Open MiFlash and install TWRP for your phone model. The process of flashing is described above. From the links above you can download TWRP Custom Recovery for MiFlash installation. You must first install the Global or China 8.0.3.0 MIUI ROM on your device before flashing TWRP. This will give you the option to install TWRP without unlocked bootloader. On newer ROM version you’ll have to unlock bootloader first and only after proceed to flashing custom recovery.
4. After you’ve flashed TWRP do not disconnect your device from PC.
5. Boot into Custom Recovery by pressing “Volume Up” + “Power” buttons. If TWRP asks for password, tap cancel and allow system partition modifications.
6. Go back to main menu and tap on “Wipe”. Select “Data”, “Cache” and “Dalvik” partitions.
7. Back to main menu again and reboot into system.
8. Go to “Mount” and enable “MTP”.
9. Copy downloaded custom ROM .zip archive to phone internal memory.
10. In “Mount” disable “MTP” and safely remove USB cable.
11. In case you see a checkmark against “system”, remove it to unmount “system” partition.
12. Now go to “Install” menu and select ROM .zip file. Confirm with swipe to continue. Flashing will take around 10-15 and you’ll see a successful message in the end.
13. Reboot into system.
14. You should see a Mi logo on a black screen. First startup will take around 10 minutes. If you can’t boot into the system, you can try rebooting into TWRP Custom Recovery and try installing ROM once again, this help sometimes.

How to flash Global ROM on Xiaomi Mi Mix without Unlocked Bootloader

1. First charge your device to 100%.
2. If you just open the box, then turn on your device and complete the startup setup. It’s required that you connect to WiFi, skip everything else. Wait until complete loading.
3. Enable “Developer options”. Go to “Settings” > “About phone” and tap a few times on “MIUI version”. You will see a message that developer options are now enabled.
4. Now enable “USB debugging”. Go to “Settings” > “Additional settings” > “Developer options” and enable “USB debugging”.
5. Connect your device to PC using the stock USB cable. When you see a “USB for charging” message, tap on it and select “Transfer files (MTP)”.
6. Download the latest China Developer MIUI ROM for Mi Mix. Check out this post for the latest Xiaomi Mi Mix ROMs.
7. Copy downloaded ROM .zip archive to your phone. On your PC or laptop open “My Computer” > “Mi Mix Smartphone” > “Internal storage” > “Download”. In “Download” folder copy downloaded China Developer ROM .zip file.
8. Now we will install China Developer ROM. Tap on the “Tools” > select “Updater” app > In the opened window tap on the “three dots” icon, select “Choose update package”, go to “Download” folder and select previously copied .zip file. Press “Ok” in the bottom of the screen to continue.
9. Wait until file checking is completed, confirm “Erase and Update” message with “Ok”.
10. Your phone will reboot and flashing process will start. After installation is completed the phone will reboot in system.
11. Now repeat the 2-4 steps and enable “USB Debugging”.
12. Install Chinese version of Mi PC Suite 2.3.0. Find download link below, unpack the archive and install Mi PC Suite 2.3.0 (CN). After installation, check for updates by pressing the small round blue icon in the bottom left of the screen. The Mi PC Suite will be turned off, updated and automatically reboots.
13. Now download latest Global ROM for Mi Mix. Check out this post for the latest Xiaomi Mi Mix Global ROMs.
14. Let’s continue with installing the Global ROM. Turn off your device, press “Volume Up” and “Power” button at the same time. Hold both buttons until the Mi logo appears, then release the “Power” button and continue to hold the “Volume +” button.
15. When you see a picture with smartphone and cable on the screen, release the “Volume Up” button.
16. Now connect your device to PC.
17. In Mi PC Suite, press the big orange button, in the new window press you’ll see the 3 buttons, press on the first one. Locate the Global ROM from your PC.
18. The flashing process will take around 15-20 minutes.
19. After installation is completed your device will automatically reboot.
20. If on the first startup the Mi logo is displayed  for a long time and the smartphone does not boot into the system, then press the “Volume Up” + “Power” buttons at the same time, hold both buttons pressed until the screen turns on and the Mi logo appears, then release the power button and continue to hold the “Volume Up” button. When you see a picture with smartphone and cable on the screen, release the “Volume Up” button. Connect your phone to PC via USB cable. In the Mi PC Suite, press the large orange button, and then in the opened window, click on the middle button. Press the button with orange Chinese symbols to continue. This will clear the phone memory and your device will automatically reboots into system.
21. After reboot, select the English language and required region, continue with the first startup setup.
22. That’s it! We’ve successfully installed Global ROM without unlocking the bootloader.

Flash Redmi Note 4X from China 8.1.12 to Global ROM with locked bootloader

First thing you’ll need to do is to download latest China Developer ROM version. Here’s the link: http://en.miui.com/extra.php?mod=rom/download&r=321&mobile=no#469

1. Copy downloaded latest version of China Developer ROM to your phone and update using three dots updater.
2. Download China Mi PC Suite 2.30 (it’s important to download exactly Chinese version). Download link: MiSetup2.3.0.1031_2717.exe (41.1 MB)
3. Install Mi PC Suite 2.30 Chinese language version and update it to the latest build (press blue arrow in the left bottom corner to update).
4. Now download latest Redmi Note 4X Global Stable ROM: http://en.miui.com/extra.php?mod=rom/download&r=321&mobile=no#474
5. Make sure you’ve installed all required drivers on your PC (search our website in case you don’t know what drivers are required).
6. Now reboot your phone in recovery mode using three dots app or turn off your device and press “Volume +” and “Power” buttons at the same time.
7. Next connect your device to PC via USB-cable (Mi PC Suite should be running).
8. After your device is identified in Mi PC Suite click on big orange button.
9. Next you’ll see three buttons with Chinese symbols, click on the top one and select path to downloaded Global Stable ROM .zip archive and press left button to start flashing.
10. Flashing process should start. You will see percentage progress bar on your PC and progress bar on your device.
11. Wait until flash process is completed. It usually takes a long time, like 20-30 minutes.
12. Then your device will reboots and will show Mi logo for quite a long time.
13. Now boot in recovery again and connect your device to PC.
14. In Mi PC Suite press the middle button (wipe) and then press the last button (reboot).
15. Your device will reboot.
16. Congratulations! You’ve installed latest Global Stable ROM version on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X.

How to flash recovery with SP Flash Tool on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

1. Run SP Flash Tool
   

   

2. In the “Download-Agent” field, press “Choose” and enter the path to the “MTK_AllInOne_DA.bin” file. It is located in the folder with SP Flash Tool.
   

   

3. In the “Scatter-loading File” field, specify the path to the “MT6797_Android_scatter.txt” scatter file. It is located in the “images” folder of downloaded recovery ROM. In the drop-down menu select “Download Only”.
4. Remove all the checkboxes.
5. In field “recovery” click on the “Location” and select our recovery.img.
6. Make sure you’ve removed all the checkboxes and selected only “recovery” and the mode is “Download Only”.
7. If everything is correct press “Download” button.
8. Now turn off your smartphone and connect it via USB cable to your PC.
9. Right after you connect your device, progress bar in the bottom of the screen will turn red, and then yellow.
10. After about 5 seconds “Download OK” window should appear.
11. Disconnect your smartphone from PC.
12. Hold the “volume up” button and “power button” at the same time. After vibration signal, release the power button and continue to hold the “volume up”. After a few seconds device will boot into just flashed recovery.

Few notes:

• It’s recommended to use stock-kit USB-cable, or other high-quality cable.
• Use rear USB ports.
• Recommended SP Flash Tool version is 5.1620.

This guide was tested and written using TWRP_Hydrogen_3.0.2.2_All_061816.zip and UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323.zip. It probably might also work with other versions.

Flash Global ROM on Xiaomi Mi Max

After this method your device will not be accessible to get updates via OTA. Updates are possible by manually downloading updates and flashing them with TWRP and SuperSU.

Remember to backup your personal data!

• • Download TWRP_Hydrogen_3.0.2.2 and boot your device in recovery mode.
    • In case you’ve just unlocked your device, install TWRP through fastboot mode.
    • In case you’ve got previously installed versions of TWRP, download and extract TWRP_Hydrogen_3.0.2.2_All. Move the folder to your phone storage and flash the image using already installed TWRP recovery. Don’t forget to reboot after flashing and voila, the new TWRP is installed.
  • Download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323.zip and move this archive to your phone storage.
  • Download Global ROM for Recovery and also move it to the phone storage.
  • Don’t forget about data backups, and also don’t forget to disable fingerprint or pin locks.
  • Wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik partitions.
  • Flash Global ROM.
  • Clear all caches after successful flashing.
  • Don’t reboot now and return to “Flash zip” menu and install Super SU by selecting .zip archive.
  • Press “Reboot in OS” and wait for system to start.
  • Now we’ve got Global ROM flashed, with root and TWRP. All data on flash memory is saved, including backup.

How to flash Xiaomi Mi Max To Global ROM and have working OTA updates

Working only unlocked devices!

In this guide we will show how to flash Mi Max to Global ROM from any ROM version you currently have flashed (doesn’t matter if you have Official, Chinese, Custom localized MultiROM or xiaomi.eu version). All personal data, including installed applications, call history and messages will be saved. We will get ROOT along the way and also show you solution how to restore ability to receive and install updates via OTA.

Flashing Global ROM on Mi Max without removing personal DATA

• Download latest stable version of Global ROM, unzip to C:\ and rename the unzipped folder to make the name shorten.
• Download & install Xiaomi Mi Flash Tool Version 6.8.30 – MiFlashSetup-Beta.zip
• Run this app after installing. Start your phone in fastboot mode (turn off your device first, then hold power button and volume button down).
• Now connect your device to PC via USB cable and in XiaoMiFlash select the folder where’s your downloaded ROM is located.
• Now pay attention to this steps:
  1. Check if your device is connected by pressing “Refresh”
  2. Select mode: clear all – format of every partition, this will lead to absolutely “clear” installation of Global ROM (Note! This is actually the most recommended and easy way for newbies to flash). save user data – save everything from DATA partition (we’ll choose this method during this guide). clean all and lock – this option will delete data from every partition and lock the bootloader (we’ll stay away from this option).
  3. Press “Flash” to start flashing process. At the end of installation, the phone will reboot itself into the system.
  4. That’s it! You’ve installed Global ROM on your Redmi 4. And all your personal data has been saved! This including all your previously installed software (with backup).

Getting ROOT and OTA updates on Redmi 4 Global ROM

For this tutorial we’ll need:

• Tools for adb/fastboot: tools.rar
• TWRP image: TWRP_Hydrogen_3.0.2.2_All_061816.zip
• SuperSU: SuperSU-v2.79-SR2.apk or UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323.zip
• OTG flash card (you can get these pretty cheap at aliexpress)

So let’s start:

1. Extract the tools.rar in C:\tools and copy TWRP image there. Press Shift + RMB and run the command window.
2. Start your device in “fastboot”, connect device to PC and check the connection by typing this command:

   fastboot device

3. Just in case you may want to check bootloader status (remember, this guide is only for devices with unlocked bootloader):

   fastboot oem device-info

4. Boot your phone in TWRP (this way we won’t install TWRP, but just boot it once).

   fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-2-hydrogen.img

5. It will take around 3-5 minutes to boot in TWRP.
6. You should be asked to “Enter Password”, press “Cancel” here.
7. Accept with file system changes by doing right swap.
8. Now you’re in main menu. Press “Mount”.
9. Connect OTG flash card and select these options: System, Cache, Cust, Firmware, Persist, USB OTG.
10. Press “Enable MTP” first and then press “Select Drive”.
11. In the modal menu select “USB OTG”.
12. Now select the required SuperSU from flash card and install it. Reboot after installation process is completed.
13. Congratulations! Now you’ve got Global ROM with stock recovery, root and working OTA updates on your Xiaomi Mi Max.
