Flash latest MIUI 9 Global Developer on Xiaomi Mi5S Plus (Natrium)

First download the latest Developer ROM 7.9.22 (or download the newer version) for Xiaomi Mi5S Plus version.
Open “Updater” app and tap on the tree dots icon, select the ROM archive that you’ve downloaded in the first step.
After the unpacking the phone will automatically boot into recovery mode and updating process should start.

Well, today is definitely a great day for Mi fans! Now we’ve got the latest MIUI 9 China Developer 7.8.17 ROM available for thirteen Xiaomi phone models including Mi 5 (in all variations), Mi Max, Mi Note Pro and most interesting one is for Redmi 4X. MIUI 9 brings the optimization, performance and many awesome features to the table. Right now, only fastboot ROM version is released.

Please, pay attention that this is a MIUI 9 Beta version so there’s a chance that you might stuck with some bugs or issues (these can be reported to Xiaomi and fixed in the future versions). So, it’s recommended to advanced users only. If you’ll proceed with update, don’t forget to backup your current system to avoid loosing your data.

Here’s a some information on how you can flash an Official MIUI ROM on your Xiaomi Mi5S Plus smartphone. The thing is that many devices are being sold with “Vietnamese” or other unofficial ROM version installed, while most users like to have Official MIUI ROM installed.

How to install Official China Stable ROM on Xiaomi Mi5S Plus

So, let’s imagine that you’ve finally get your Xiaomi Mi5S Plus device in your hands and now you want to flash Official MIUI ROM on it. Here’s what you need to do.

First of all, you need to download Official ROM (recovery) and install it via “Updater” app (three dots icon). Also you can flash Official China Stable ROM using the MiFlash tool.

It’s recommended to download ROM using the phone browser, to avoid broken files. In case you’ve flashing using the MiFlash tool, then download and install all required PC drivers.

Another thing you should know is that after flashing from unofficial to MIUI China Stable ROM all your personal data will be deleted, so make sure you’ve made a backup.

Hello, guys! Here’s a method that you can use to increase the headphones microphone volume on your Mi5S Plus phone. Please note, that root is required!

Fix low microphone volume issue on Xiaomi Mi5S Plus

Mount and set “RW” permissions for “/system/etc/mixer_paths_tasha.xml”.
Make backup of “mixer_paths_tasha.xml” file just in case.
Now open “mixer_paths_tasha.xml” with any text editing app, ES Explorer for example.
Find these lines:
Next simply change and increase the value here value=”3″ />, you can try something like 14-16.
Confirm changes and reboot your phone.
Now the volume of your headphones microphone will be increased. Pretty simple, huh.

How to use Android Pay on Xiaomi Mi 5 Custom ROM

Here’s some information on how you can use Android Pay application on your Xiaomi phone with root and unlocked bootloader with Custom ROM installed (Lineage & Resurrection Remix ROMs in this case).

Install Android Pay on Xiaomi with Custom ROM (Lineage & Resurrection Remix)

This tutorial was tested on Mi5 and Mi5s Plus devices with Lineage OS or RR custom ROM installed.

Open Google Play and download Magisk Manager.
Open Magisk Manager > click on the top red cross icon, tap “Download and install” > “Install” > “Reboot”.
Install “Android Pay”.
Open “Magisk Manager” (you should see two green arrows at this point). Open settings, find and enable “Magisk Hide” option. Exit settings and tap on the third grey icon, if it turns to green, that means everything was done correctly. You can now open Android Pay and add cards, everything should work fine now.

If case you’ve stuck with some issues, you may want to try this solution:

If you can’t install Magisk using the Google Play or .apk file, then try flashing this .zip archive via TWRP Custom Recovery: Magisk-v12.0.zip
In case you’ve successfully installed Magisk, but SafetyNet is still couldn’t be enabled or Android Pay is still not working, then try installing this fix via TWRP: xiaomi-safetynet-fix-v1.8.1.zip
If something goes wrong and you want to uninstall Magisk from your device completely, then download and install Magisk uninstaller patch via TWRP.

Pay attention, that after updating your custom ROM to a newest version, Magisk will be deleted, so you’ll need to repeat the same steps again to make Android Pay available to work. Also you can install the Magisk-v12.0.zip right after updating your current ROM.

Very stable, quite fast and overall very good custom ROM version. Battery life is also very good.

Important Information: In case of “Error 7”: On the latest Ressurection Remix ROM starting from 21.05, you must update the firmware to DEV MIUI 14.04 and not newest. Otherwise you’ll get an error in TWRP related to firmware version. Here’s a patch you may want to download: firmware_7_5_11.zip

Lineage OS for Mi 5S Plus

Very good custom ROM. Very fast and quite stable performance. Everything is working without issues. Among the shortcomings very low battery life (around 6-7 hours) and bad camera app.
