How to flash custom ROM on Xiaomi Mi6?

Basically, you install all custom roms via TWRP Custom Recovery. Here you can find a tutorial on how to flash TWRP on Mi6 phone and here’s some additional information. Sometimes after the first TWRP Installation it’s required to make “format data” before flashing, in case TWRP sees the data partition, “format data” is not required. To “Format data” go to “Wipe” menu, in the bottom right corner you’ll see “Format Data”, tap on it and type “yes” to confirm. After formatting data partition on data from your device will be deleted. Now reboot into custom recovery and start flashing a Custom ROM on Mi 6.

1. Download firmware, Custom ROMS and Gapps.
2. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.
3. Go to “Wipe” and select “Data, Cache, Dalvik” partitions. Swipe to confirm.
4. In TWRP Custom Recovery go to “Install”, flash firmware, then flash downloaded ROM, swipe to confirm. Wipe “Cache/Dalvik”.
5. Go back to “Install” menu and flash GAPPS (optionally). Wipe “Cache/Dalvik” after installation.
6. Now in the main TWRP Menu press “Reboot” and reboot into system.

How to install GAPPS on Xiaomi Mi6 Custom ROM?

All custom ROMs are comes without pre-installed Google Applications, so you’ll need to flash them separately. Download Gapps package from here http://opengapps.org/

1. Download required Gapps package.
2. In TWRP Custom Recovery flash the Custom ROM and without booting into system flash the .zip file with Gapps. Do not install Gapps after booting into system!
3. After you’ve installed Custom ROM and Gapps you can reboot into system.

How to flash Xiaomi Mi 6 from 8.2.0.2 fake ROM to Official Global Developer

1. Download and install Mi PC Suite. Usually, it automatically installs all required drivers. Start Mi PC Suite. Update the software if required.
2. Boot into recovery mode.
3. In recovery select “MI ASSISTANT” mode connection.
4. Connect your device to PC via USB-cable.
5. Your device will not be found in Mi PC Suite. No need to click “Connect to device” button.
6. Press the arrow icon near the “Update” button and click on “R.FLASH”.
7. If everything was done correctly, you’ll be suggested to flash to Global Developer ROM.
8. Pay attention! At 80% your device will reboot and most probably you’ll see error message in Mi PC Suite. This is normal! 
9. Your device will reboot and start with installed Global Developer ROM. You can now close the Mi PC Suite and disconnect your device from PC.

How to get rid of Kedacom USB Device Driver

1. Start your Windows 10 PC in test mode. Disconnect from the internet. Open “Device manager”.
2. Boot your device in fastboot mode.
3. In device manager, try deleting Kedacom USB Devices > Android Boodloader Interface.
4. Delete Kedacom USB Devices until you’ll see “Other devices” > “Android”. If your device isn’t found anyhow, try reconnect it via USB cable.
5. Now when you see “Android” device with question mark, update with xiaomi_usb_driver folder, you’ve downloaded previously. Download here: xiaomi_usb_driver.rar (don’t forget to unpack this archive).
6. If you’re not fast enough to update the driver, reboot your device in fastboot mode again and try updating the drivers more quickly.
7. In the end you should see “Android Phone > Android ADB Interface” in device manager.
8. Now you can flash your device. Do not connect to the network or exit the test mode, otherwise Kedacom driver will be installed once again. On some systems the “Android Phone > Android ADB Interface” can be saved.

Complete guide on flashing Xiaomi Mi6 with MIUI ROM

Flash Xiaomi Mi6 with MiFlash Tool

Flashing with locked bootloader

Use this flashing method if you don’t have official unlock permission from MIUI, or you can’t unlock bootloader on your Xiaomi Mi6 device using the standard method. The difference is that with locked bootloader you need to use EDL (emergency download mode), while with unlocked bootloader you can use fastboot mode.

How to boot Xiaomi Mi6 into EDL Mode

Note that while your device is in EDL mode doesn’t show any signs of life. 

After you’ve booted your Mi6 device in download mode, you should see Qualcomm HS-USB QLoader 9008 in device manager.

Boot Xiaomi Mi6 into EDL with unlocked bootloader

First method: Connect your device to PC and find it in device manager. Open notification bar and tap on “Connected in charging mode”, then select “Transfer files (MTP) mode”. Device manager will update the list of connected devices. Now enable “Developer options”. Go to “Settings” > “About Phone” > and tap seven times on “MIUI version”. After you’ve enabled developer options, go back to settings and select “Advanced settings” > “Developer options”. Enable “USB debugging”. Open command prompt and test if your device connected successfully. In command prompt type:

adb devices

The phone will display “Allow debugging from this computer?” message. Confirm by pressing OK. In the command prompt you’ll see “List of devices attached” and unique device number. Next type:

adb reboot edl

Your device should reboot into download mode. If it simply reboots in system, then this method doesn’t work for you. This is pretty much ok, just continue to another method.

Fastboot method: Boot Xiaomi Mi6 in fastboot mode. Enable “USB debugging” and in command prompt type:

adb reboot bootloader

Your device should reboot into fastboot mode. Another method to boot into fastboot mode is to turn off your device. Press “Power” and “Volume down” button. After you’ve started your device in fastboot mode, type:

fastboot oem edl

Your device will boot in EDL. Remember you should have unlocked bootloader to use this method. If you don’t have unlocked bootloader you can try using engineering cable, but MIUI disabled this method on newest ROM versions.

Download Stable fastboot ROM and unpack into “C:\fastb” or any other folder with similar name. Let’s continue with flashing our Xiaomi Mi6 device. Start MiFlash.exe as administrator and press “Refresh”. COM port number is not very important, but remember to connect your device only to rear USB ports.

In MiFlash press “Select” or “Browse” (in older versions) and locate the folder with downloaded ROM files. Click “Flash” to start flashing. The flashing process should start, it will take around 5 minutes. After flashing is completed you’ll see “The operation is completed successfully” message or similar. Now disconnect your device from PC and hold power button until you’ll see Mi logo. First startup will take longer than usual.

Pay attention! If you’re flashing to Weekly or Developer MIUI ROM, you’ll most probably get hardbrick or bootloop device, engineering (deep flash) cable isn’t working no more, EDL mode also isn’t working, here’s an solution for you:

1. Download Chinese version of Mi PC Suite.
2. Boot your device in Recovery mode (turn off Xiaomi Mi6 and press and hold “Volume up” and “Power” button).
3. You’ll see 3 buttons with Chinese symbols. Press the last one (third) and you’ll device icon.
4. Run Mi PC Suite, connect your device to PC. You should see a pop-up window with one single button. Click on it.
5. Next you’ll see a window with your currently installed ROM version.
6. Now press the first button and select ROM file you want to flash (Important! You can’t flash Global Stable or Developer ROM, you’ll get an error).
7. Download China Stable ROM. Select it.
8. The ROM version will be checked, if everything is fine you’ll see green message, this means everything is ok.
9. Press the first button. On your PC you’ll see a progress bar and 0% (it won’t move). On your mobile device you’ll also see a progress bar.
10. Wait around 10-15 minutes, your device will automatically boots into system.

Flash unlocked bootloader Xiaomi Mi6 with MiFlash

Start Xiaomi Mi6 in fastboot mode.

adb reboot bootloader

1. Your Xiaomi Mi6 will be identified in device manager.
2. Download Stable fastboot ROM and unpack into “C:\fastb” or any other folder with similar name.
3. Start MiFlash.exe as administrator and press “Refresh”. Remember to connect your device only to rear USB ports.
4. In MiFlash press “Select” or “Browse” (in older versions) and locate the folder with downloaded ROM files.
5. Click “Flash” to start flashing. The flashing process should start, it will take around 5 minutes.
6. After flashing is completed you’ll see “The operation is completed successfully” message or similar.
7. Now disconnect your device from PC and hold power button until you’ll see Mi logo. First startup will take longer than usual.

Flash Xiaomi Mi6 with Updater app

This is the most convenient and simple method. It does not require unlocked bootloader and ton of drivers and software on your PC. Main disadvantage of this method is that it simply does not always work, and you can’t make backups. Features of this method:

• If you downgrade MIUI ROM version, all personal data will be wiped.
• Update from “Vietnam” ROM version to official MIUI ROM may not work.
• You can’t update from Official China MIUI ROM to Global ROM (and vice versa).
• Bootloader lock state isn’t matter.
• This method may not work on custom or localized ROM versions (supported on xiaomi.eu).

Installation process:

1. Download MIUI ROM .zip file (for recovery) and copy on your phone memory (it’s recommended to download ROM using your phone).
2. Open the “Updater” app.
3. Tap the three dots icon in the top-right corner.
4. Select ROM.
5. Locate downloaded MIUI ROM .zip file.
6. Wait > reboot your device.
7. If you stuck with “Can’t verify update package”, try other flashing methods.

How to flash Xiaomi Mi6 with TWRP Custom Recovery

1. If you’re flashing from one localized ROM to another, you must wipe every partition. Otherwise you’ll most probably stuck with some bugs and errors.
2. Before continue with this tutorial, make all required backups and save them to your PC or other device.
3. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.
4. In TWRP main menu select “Wipe” > “Advanced” > Select “Cache, Dalvik Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage” (Do not select other partitions!!!). Swipe to confirm.
5. After wipe is completed, you’ll see “Done” message, go back to TWRP main menu > Reboot > Reboot into recovery.
6. Your device will be completely clean, without any files.
7. Now connect your device to your PC and copy downloaded ROM .zip file for recovery.
8. Disconnect from PC.
9. Now go to “Install” and select ROM .zip file. Remove checkbox against “Check MD5” and swipe to confirm.
10. Wait until installation is completed. You should see “done” message.
11. Wipe “Cache” and “Dalvik”. Wait until “done” is appeared.
12. Reboot into system.
13. First startup will be longer than usual.

How to flash Xiaomi Mi6 with Mi PC Suite

This method is used for flashing the official MIUI ROM with any bootloader lock status. Along the way, Mi PC Suite installs all drivers on your PC if they are not already installed. If you want to flash your Mi6 device through Mi PC Suite in recovery mode, you need to have an official stock recovery on your device. In case you’ve got TWRP Custom Recovery installed on your device, you can always roll back to stock recovery by entering the fastboot command: “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img”. You can find stock recovery .img file in any official .tgz ROM file.

Flashing Mi6 with Mi PC Suite

1. Download and install Chinese version of MiPhoneManager (Mi PC Suite) here or here zhushou.xiaomi.com;
2. Run Mi PC Suite and connect USB cable to your device. Do not connect to PC yet.
3. Update MiPhoneManager if possible.
4. Next you’ll need to select a flashing mode. “Recovery” mode is for locked bootloader, while “fastboot” mode works only on unlocked bootloader. Use volume buttons to select the mode and “Power” button to confirm.
5. Now connect your device to PC.
6. If you’ve chosen a recovery mode you’ll see a window with 4 buttons:
   • Download ROM
   • Select ROM file from PC
   • Factory reset
   • Reboot device
7. If you’ve chosen a fastboot mode:
   1. First field is an device model
   2. Second field: Chinese ROM or Global
   3. Stable or Developer ROM
   4. Check-mark is for full wipe after flashing
   5. Buttons in the bottom: Left button means select ROM file, and right button is to download ROM.

If you flash with recovery mode, you should make factory reset manually. After ROM is flashted enter the recovery mode again and make factory reset (via recovery app or MiPhoneManager).

Unofficial Global ROM for Xiaomi Mi6

Here you’ll find a download link for unofficial Global ROM for Mi6 smartphone. We haven’t tested it yet, so we can’t provide any feedback about it. This unofficial ROM is based on China Stable MIUI 8.2.22.

Xiaomi.eu Multilingual MIUI ROM for Xiaomi Mi6

Here’s another small update. There has been a release of MIUI 8.3 7.5.25 ROM for Mi6 device. As far as we understand this version is much stable then the Unofficial Global ROM we’ve discovered previously. You can find more information and download this version here.

How to update Mi6 fake MIUI ROM 8.2.0.2 to Beta Global ROM

Here’s a small update for all of those who are waiting for Xiaomi Mi6 Official Global ROM. There’s been a release of Global stable Beta 7.6.1 ROM. But pay attention, that this ROM version was removed from official MIUI website, probably because of some issues. Be careful with this ROM. Difference between MIUI Roms

English / Chinese Stable / China Stable: Official MIUI ROM focused for China, with various applications and services relevant only for China. This version receives regular OTA updates.

Global Stable ROM: Multilingual ROM version, relevant for users outside of China. This ROM comes with inbuilt Google Apps. OTA updates are also included. In comparison to China Stable, volume is decreased on Global Stable.

China Developer ROM: China Developer ROM is the most current and innovative ROM version, as it receives all the innovations and new features first. This ROM is official and released by Xiaomi itself. First of all it is created for advanced users to test new and upcoming features.

Global Developer: Pretty much similar to the China Developer ROM, but has more languages available.

Download and install TWRP Recovery on Xiaomi Mi6

1. Start with downloading TWRP Recovery for Xiaomi Mi6 from the links below or any other source.
2. Unpack downloaded archive into “C:\twrp” or something similar.
3. Now boot your device in fastboot mode and connect to PC via USB.
4. Open command window from the folder with TWRP files.
5. In command window type “Fastboot devices”.
6. If your device is identified successfully type “Fastboot flash recovery”. Add another space after “recovery” and drag and drop TWRP file into Command prompt window. You should see full path to recovery. So you’ll see something like “Fastboot flash recovery C:\twrp\recovery.img” (you can also manually type the path to recovery). Press “Enter” to continue installation of custom recovery.
7. Now to force boot into recovery mode by typing “Fastboot boot C:\twrp\recovery.img”.
8. Your device will boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.
9. If TWRP boots in Chinese language, you’ll need to manually change it to English.
   • Press the second button on the third line to enter TWRP settings > Press the globe icon > Change language to English.
10. To boot into recovery, turn off your device and press “Volume Up” + “Power”. Otherwise open “Updater” app and select “Reboot into recovery”.

[Guide] How to install drivers for Xiaomi Mi6

To install Xiaomi Mi6 drivers and utilities, you’ll need to turn off drivers digital signature verification. It’s done by entering Test mode on Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10.

To enable Test mode on your PC, start “Command prompt” as administrator.

1. Start > Find “Command prompt” and right click > Select “Start as administrator” or right click on “Start” menu button and select “Command prompt (Admin)”.
2. In the command prompt type this command to enable “Test mode”:

   bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON

3. Press “Enter” and reboot your PC.
4. If everything was done correctly, after reboot, you should see “Test mode enabled” message in the right corner of the screen.
5. Now install all required drivers for Xiaomi Mi6 (find download links below).
6. Now we will disable the test mode by typing this command in the “Command prompt”:

   bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING OFF

7. Reboot your PC again.
