[Guide] How to fix MTP mode on Redmi 4X

In case MTP mode isn’t working on your Redmi 4X device, and your PC can’t find your device when it’s connected via USB cable, then you might want to try this simple solution. This was tested on MULTIROM firmware, but will probably work on other versions as well.

Solution for not working MTP Mode on Redmi 4X

Open “system/build.prop” and add these lines in the bottom of the file.

persist.service.adb.enable=1
persist.sys.usb.config=mtp,adb

Save and confirm changes.

That’s it! MTP mode should now work perfectly fine!

Download MTP Fix for 8.2.5.0 and 8.2.10.0 ROM versions

Below you can also download and try the following patches for Official MIUI Global ROMS 8.2.5.0 and 8.2.10.0. Install via TWRP. This patch will only fix MTP on your phone.

If you can’t use your Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime device in MTP mode and your device is not found when connected to PC, then try following the tutorial below.

How to fix MTP mode on Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime

Here’s what you need to do. Open “system/build.prop” file and add these lines and enable USB debugging:

persist.service.adb.enable=1
persist.sys.usb.config=mtp,adb

More detailed guide:

Download and install BuildProp Editor from Play Market.
Press the “pencil” icon on the top. Text Editor should open.

Scroll down and add these lines:

persist.service.adb.enable=1
persist.sys.usb.config=mtp,adb

Leave one empty line in the bottom of the file.
Save & Exit
You should see SuperSU popup, confirm root access.
Go to “Settings” > “About device” > tap 7 times on “MIUI Version” until you see “You’re now a developer!”.
Go back to “Settings” > “Additional Settings” > “Developer options” > Enable “Developer mode” and “USB Debugging”.
Reboot yout device.

This issue usually happens on 64bit Windows versions. Below you’ll find a solution on how to fix MTP transfer without getting ROOT on Redmi 4.

How to fix MTP connection issues on Xiaomi Redmi 4

If your Redmi 4 phone is shown as “Unknown device” in device manager, do the following steps.
Right click on it and select “Properties”.
In “Device status” you’ll probably see “The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)” message.
Now go to “Driver” tab and press “Update Driver”.
Now select the second option to manually search for the drivers on this computer.
Next click on “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.
Select “Android Phone” or “USB Composite Device” from the list, and then select MTP Device.
In conclusion your device should be successfully identified as Redmi 4 removable drive on your PC.
