Flash TWRP Custom Recovery and fix bootloader on Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition

1. Download kate_aboot_and_recovery.zip
2. Unpack “kate” folder from downloaded archive to C:\ drive.
3. Download TWRP version you want to flash, rename it to recovery.img and move to “C:\kate\images\”.
4. Reboot your phone in EDL mode. Check out this post to find out how to to boot Redmi Note 3 Special Edition.
5. Now flash your device with MiFlash tool (check this guide).
6. Locate the “kate” folder.
7. Select “save user data” option.
8. Disconnect your device from PC and reboot in TWRP Custom Recovery (press and hold “Power” and “Volume +” buttons, after Mi logo appeared on the screen, release the “Power” button).
9. Format data partition if TWRP asking for a password.

Also you’ll need to have HEX Workshop, IMEI Converter and QPST drivers on your PC.

How to restore IMEI on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition

1. First connect your device to PC via USB cable and start Minimal ADB and Fastboot.
2. Enter these commands in command prompt:

   adb devices
   adb shell
   su
   setprop sys.usb.config diag,adb

3. Device will be reconnected.
4. Now enter the commands below:

   adb shell
   su
   getprop sys.usb.config

5. At this point, in device manager you should see a COM port and Qualcomm HS-USB Android DIAG 901D (COM21).
6. Download and unpack kate_00000000_0.zip
7. Open 00000000_0.qcn file from previously downloaded archive with Hex Workshop.
8. Now start IMEI Converter.exe and enter your IMEI for SIM 1 (later for SIM 2).
9. In the Hex Workshop find this line “08 8A 06 51 03 73 10 95 56” and replace with your SIM 1 IMEI code from IMEI Converter. Now look for “08 8A 06 51 03 73 10 95 49” and replace with SIM 2 code from IMEI Converter.
10. Save and close Hex Workshop.
11. Open Minimal ADB and Fastboot and enter these commands:

    adb shell
    su
    dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 of=/sdcard/modemst1
    dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 of=/sdcard/modemst2
    dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p16 of=/sdcard/fsg
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p16
    reboot

12. Repeat steps 1-4.
13. Start QPST tool and select device (if it doesn’t recognized click on “Add New Port”).
14. Press “Start Clients” > “Software Download” and locate 00000000_0.qcn
15. Click on “Restore” tab and press “Start”.
16. Reboot your device.
17. That’s it! You should now have IMEI restored.

Delete or remove popup advertising on MIUI 8 Global ROM Redmi Note 3 Pro SE

You can find some ads in different applications, for example in “Security” > “Wipe”. The amount of ads are also depends on your device region settings.

There’re three apps that are responsible for advertising. So, basically to block / remove ads on MIUI 8 Global ROM, you would need to disable internet access for these 3 applications:

• Analytics
• mab
• msa

The most easy way is to root your device and then disable network access for the apps above. If you ain’t got root on your Xiaomi phone, then you can try using Adguard application from Google Play Store.

Also, keep in mind that unofficial localized MIUI roms usually doesn’t contain any ads.

Fix WiFi 2.4 GHz Weak Performance on Xiaomi devices powered by Snapdragon

The thing is that Qualcomm forgot to add the support of WiFi 40 MHz channel in their drivers, and because of this Xiaomi smartphones working only on 20 MHz channel range. Just to clarify: this is a Qualcomm fault, not Xiaomi.

If you don’t trust any scripts, then here’s a manual fix for this:

1.  Go to /system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima/ 
   1. On developer (beta) roms starting from 6.10.13 version and 8.0.4.0 Global Stable ROM version  WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini file is located in /system/etc/wifi
2. Find WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini and open this file with text editor app.
3. Then add this line in the bottom:

   gChannelBondingMode24GHz=1

4. Save the changes and reboot your device.

Note, that in case of update to the newest ROM version, you’ll need to repeat the same steps again.

After doing this simple fix the throughput will be almost doubled. It will increase WiFi performance from 65 MB to 135 MB.

How to update Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition to the latest Stable ROM version

To update your device to the latest Stable ROM version do the following steps:

1. Enter “Settings”.
2. Then “Additional settings”.
3. “Region” > and change your region to “Indonesia”.
4. Now check for updates.
5. Now your device should be able to update to the latest ROM version without any problems.

It’s recommended to make factory reset before and after update. Please note! After factory reset all data, applications and personal settings will be removed. Factory reset will not affect SIM card data and memory card data. You’ll need to setup your settings just like on the first startup. Factory reset reboot will take around 5-15 minutes. Good luck on your updates!
