Here’s another tutorial for Xiaomi Mi4c owners. In this post we are going to show you how to flash TWRP Custom Recovery and then root Mi 4c phone. Please pay attention, that you’re doing everything at your own risk and author is not responsible for any possible issues with your device.

Please pay attention that on official China ROMs, both developer (starting from 6.1.14) and Stable China ROM (starting from 7.2.1.0), Xiaomi has locked the bootloader and removed the root option. On Official Stable Android 5.1 ROM (starting from 7.2.1.0) you can’t get root. If you try installing SuperSU, you’ll most probably get a bootloop. You can freely install SuperSU and enable root on Stable Android 7.1 Nougat ROMs.

Install TWRP Custom Recovery and get rooted Xiaomi Mi 4c

How to flash TWRP Custom Recovery on Xiaomi Mi4c

Boot your Mi 4c device into fastboot mode. Turn off your phone, press “Power” button and “Volume Down” until fastboot logo appears on the screen.

Download the TWRP archive for Mi4c.

Unpack the downloaded archive.

Connect your device to PC via USB cable.

Open command prompt as administrator and run “recovery.bat” file.

Follow the instructions on the screen by simply pressing “Enter” button on a keyboard.

Once the installation is completed, close the command prompt.

You device should boot into TWRP Custom Recovery mode.

On some device, touch mode could be a little bit lagged, simply wait around 1-3 minutes, it should start working after some time.

How to Root Xiaomi Mi 4c

Root Mi4c with a Stable ROM:

You must have TWRP Custom Recovery installed!

Download the archive with SuperSU.

Copy downloaded archive to phone internal memory.

Boot into recovery mode.

Click “Install” and select SuperSU archive.

Confirm with swipe.

Reboot into system.

Done!

Root Mi4c with a Developer ROM:

Locate the “Security” app.

Go to “Authorization”.

Select ROOT.

In the list of application, chose the one’s you want to enable root access.

Hello, guys! Here’s a tutorial on how to flash Android 7 Nougat on your Xiaomi Mi4c device and then downgrade back to Android 5.1.

Flash Android 7 Nougat on Xiaomi Mi4c and downgrade to Android 5.1

Before you’ll start, pay attention to this steps:

Install or update TWRP for Android 5.1: TWRP-3.1.0-2-libra-L.img (39.8 Mb)

Make a full backup of your current system using custom recovery! It’s very important.

Create a new folder on your device and copy the following stuff:

Currently installed Android 5.1 ROM file.

Currently installed TWRP Recovery image.

Android 7 Nougat ROM.

TWRP Recovery for Android 7 Nougat (We recommend TWRP-3.1.0-2-libra-N.img)

How to flash Android 7 on Mi4c

Now we will start flashing Android 7 Nougat on Xiaomi Mi4c device:

Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery and wipe all partitions except Internal SD Card.

Reboot into recovery.

Install downloaded Android 7 ROM and install TWRP .img file right after you’ve installed Android 7 ROM.

Reboot into recovery.

Wipe “Dalvik / ART” and “Cache”.

Reboot into system.

That’s it! You’ve installed Android 7 ROM on your Mi4c device.

How to downgrade to Android 5.1 from Android 7

Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.

Wipe all partitions, except Internal SD Card.

Reboot into recovery. On that step, recovery may not boot on the first startup. No need to panic here! Hold “Power” button and “Volume Up” button now, display will turn off and when it turned on again, release both buttons. TWRP will start.

Now install Android 5.1 .zip archive and then immediately install TWRP for Android 5.1.

Wipe “Dalvik” and “Cache”.

Reboot into system.

Complete the setup on the first up.

Reboot into TWRP recovery again and restore full backup that you’ve made before installing Android 7 ROM.

Reboot into system.

Now you’ve downgraded back to Android 5.1 and you’ve got all your previous system settings and apps!

Here’s a short instruction on how to flash or update modem files on your Xiaomi Mi4C device using TWRP recovery.

Flashing Modem in Xiaomi Mi4c using TWRP recovery

First download the MIUI ROM you want to extract modem file from. Modem file name is – NON-HLOS.bin (In custom ROMs this file is located in “firmware-update” folder).

Download MODEM.zip

Open this archive using WinRar.

Copy previously downloaded and extracted modem file instead of empty NON-HLOS.bin inside of MODEM.zip archive. Compression method set to “Normal”.

Now copy updated MODEM.zip into phone internal memory and flash it using TWRP recovery. Do not pay attention to the log files, if you see any errors, since the .zip is made on other device sources.
