This is a how-to article that will guide you to Root, Install TWRP and Flash custom firmware (ROM) on your Mi Mix 2. Here we covered, in details, all the steps needed to make your Mi Mix Rock. Now, let’s begin.

Before starting the procedure, make sure you have an unlocked-bootloader device. If you do not know how to check that or how to unlock your bootloader, here is a step-by-step guide for you: How To Unlock Bootloader On Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.

Once you have your bootloader unlocked, you can jump into the following section.

Flashing Custom ROM on Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is easy!

Install the TWRP (Custom) Recovery

Having Custom Recovery (TWRP) on your device is a must-have tool for rooting your Android device and installing all kind mods or ROMs (firmwares). Here is how to do that.

First, enter Fastboot Mode on your Mi device, by holding together Volume Down + Power.

Download the twrp-3.2.1-0-chrin.img file from the following link. Then store it in a dedicated folder on your computer.

Open the folder where you have stored the twrp.img file. Now, launch a command window in there. You can do that by pressing Shift + Right Click on an empty white space inside the folder. Then choose Open Command Window Here or Open PowerShell Window Here.

In the command window type the following terminal command line:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-chiron.img

Note: Do not restart your phone. In opposite the original Xiaomi recovery might overwrite your custom TWRP recovery.

Boot your Mi device into Recovery Mode (3 possible ways).

Enter the following terminal command in the command line:

fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-0-chiron.img

Hold down together Volume Up + Power until the Mi logo shows up. Then, release Power but keep pressing Volume Up until you see the recovery.

Hold down together Volume Up + Volume Down + Power until you see the recovery screen.

Root Your Mi Mix 2

Once you have TWRP installed, rooting your Mi device is a piece of cake. Just follow the steps below.

First, download the latest Magisk from the following link.

Store the Magisk file you just downloaded into your phone memory (internal memory or SD card).

Boot your device into Recovery Mode (see the step 5 from the previous section).

While in the TWRP interface, navigate to the location where you stored the Magisk file.

Flash the Magisk file.

Restart your Mi device.

Flash Custom Firmware on Mi Mix 2

Now, when you have root access on your Mi device, you can install pretty much any custom firmware (ROM) you want. The installation procedure is the same. Here it is in detailed steps.

First, download the ROM (custom firmware) you want to flash. Make sure you choose one that is for your specific Mi device (in your case for Mi Mix 2). Here are some of the most popular ROMS.

Lineage OS – download here.
Note: In case you lose the root access, and you want to keep it after installing Lineage OS, download the addonus-15.1-arm64-signed.zip file from the following link. After you install the ROM flash addonus-15.1-arm64-signed.zip using TWRP, and you will get the root access.

AICP – download here.

OMNI – download here.
Note: In case you lose the root access, and you want to keep it after installing AICP or OMNI ROMs, flash the Magisk file again using TWRP (as you did in the Rooting section from above).

Now, download Google Apps.
Select the right Platform and Android version of your ROM as well as the variant you want to use. Then click the download button, and store the downloaded file into your phone memory.

Enter Recovery Mode (check the step 5 from the previous section if you do not know how to do that).

While in the TWRP interface, wipe the following: Dalvin / Art Cache, Data, Cache. (DO NOT wipe Internal Storage).

Now, go back to the main TWRP screen and flash the ROM you previously downloaded.

Once the installation finishes, flash the Google Apps file you downloaded before.

If you want to keep the root access, flash addonus-15.1-arm64-signed.zip (in case you installed Lineage OS) or the Magisk file (in case you installed another ROM).

Reboot your Mi device and enjoy your new custom ROM.

First, disable signature enforcement in your Windows operating system. If you do not know how to do that, check the following link.

Now, install ADB and Fastboot tools with drivers on your Windows. For more information on how to do that you can check the following link.

Next, enable Developer Operations on your device. Go to Settings > About Phone > MIUI version. Then, click on MIUI version seven times to activate the feature. Once it is activated, go to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options. Check the boxes “OEM unlocking“ and “USB debugging.”

Check if your Bootloader is locked.

Once you got ADB and Fastboot installed on your computer, enter into Fastboot Mode on your Android device. (Hold Volume Down + Power and connect your Android device to your computer via USB cable, preferably the original one).

Navigate to the folder where you have installed ADB and Fastboot. Then, open command window inside that folder (Shift + Right Click on an empty space into the folder, and select Open Command Window Here or Open PowerShell Window Here).

Now, enter the following command in the CMD window:

fastboot devices

If you do not see your Android device type the following line:

fastboot oem device-info

Now, you will get info about your bootloader. If it is locked, you will get the following (or similar) message:

(bootloader) Device tampered: false
(bootloader) Device unlocked: false
(bootloader) Device critical unlocked: false
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
(bootloader) Display panel:
OKAY [ 0.058s]
finished. total time: 0.063s

If you have an unlocked bootloader, you’ll get the following (or similar) message:

(bootloader) Device tampered: false
(bootloader) Device unlocked: true
(bootloader) Device critical unlocked: true
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
(bootloader) Display panel:
OKAY [ 0.053s]
finished. total time: 0.055s

Requesting Permission from Xiaomi to unlock your Bootloader

First, create a Mi Account (if you haven’t done it already). You can do int on the following link.

Then, sign in to Xiaomi and apply for bootloader unlocking here.
Note: When requesting the bootloader unlock you have to say the reason for doing that. Example: When I bought my Xiaomi phone it was running a custom (fake) ROM. I would like to install an original Xiaomi ROM. Please approve my request for unlocking the bootloader.

Now, you need to wait for the permission. Usually, they approve the requests for 24 hours (That is what the majority of users are reporting). However, there are some rare cases when the waiting time is up to 10 days. If your request is approved, you will get a message similar to this one:
“You’ve been granted the permission to unlock your device (Mi Account xxxx). Download Mi Unlock Tool At http://en.miui.com/unlock“

Sync your Mi Account with your Mi Device

Go to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options > Mi Unlock status and check “Add account and device.”
If for any reason you cannot connect your Mi Account to your device, try one of the following fixes.

Install the FlyVPN app on your device. Connect to one of the Chinese servers. Then, try to connect your Mi Account to your device.

Get the Developer Version firmware for Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. You can download it on the following link.
Transfer the firmware file into the internal memory of your device.
Go to Settings > About Phone > System Update. In the upper right corner, you can see three dots. Click them and click on “Choose update package.”
Then click on “File Manager” and select the Developer Version package that you’ve downloaded before. Click OK to install the firmware. Once the installation finishes, try to connect your Mi account to the device.

Unlocking the Bootloader – Finally!

First, get the Mi Unlock tool. You can download it here.

Enter Fastboot Mode on your Mi device. (Hold down together Volume Down + Power and connect the device to your computer using USB cable, preferably the original one.

Launch the Mi Unlock tool

Type in your email and your password of your Mi account.

While your device is connected to your computer, start the procedure.

Follow the Mi Unlock tool instructions.

Once the procedure finishes, restart your device.

Note: In rare cases, users get a message saying “You can unlock your device after 72 hours” or something similar, you have to wait for that time to pass.

However, if you are following the steps above, and if you are patient enough you will definitely get your bootloader unlocked.

Four years back, Xiaomi didn’t have a smart-phone item. Presently, the previous startup is worth $45 billion and has turned out to be one of the three best phone makers in the globe.

Xiaomi’s fleeting ascent in its nation of origin pits it against Apple, which finds the Chinese market of extraordinary interest. Various smart-phones have been launched by Xiaomi with unrivaled features at a lesser price tag, which makes it a crowd favorite.

Furthermore, do you know what does the “Mi” stand for? Well, the “MI” in the logo stands for “Mobile Internet”. It additionally has different meanings, including “Mission Impossible”, in light of the fact that Xiaomi confronted many difficulties that had appeared to be difficult to oppose in its initial days.

Pushing forward, let us check ouy some of the most recent Xiaomi news. They are as per the following.

October Xiaomi & MIUI News

Xiaomi Mi6 Shows Up On Tenaa Community:

The international form of Xiaomi Mi 6 with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage goes for €350/$415.

Xiaomi is planning to launch a variant with 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage combination, as indicated by an update of the TENAA listing. The RAM is the main update the listing has received over the most recent two months. The various specs remain the same – 5.15″ screen size with Full HD resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and double 13 MP cameras. The phone runs Android Nougat 7.1 and also has a 3,350 mAh battery.

The international form of Xiaomi Mi 6 with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage goes for €350/$415. The variation is expected to hit the market in November.

Xiaomi Mi A1 – Review:

If you are in a nation where the Mi A1 is sold, I would suggest it.

Similar to other Xiaomi’s past phones, this phone looks especially like an Apple phone – for this situation, the iPhone 7 Plus. It has a similar antenna bands that keep running over the top and base, the same adjusted aluminum back, similar dual cameras, and similar color choices. The phone is only a hair thicker than the 7 Plus, coming in at 7.3mm.

The A1 has a 5.5″ 1080p display. It’s an IPS LCD panel, so you won’t get the astounding contrast and hues that AMOLED screens offer, but that is expected at this value point.

A standout among the greatest parts of the A1, as I would like to think, was the battery life. This won’t be astonishment, considering the Snapdragon 625 processor is incredible with regards to power utilization. The 3,000 mAh battery isn’t especially substantial, however when joined with the SD625, you get a smart-phone that can without much of a stretch last a day or two.

The Mi A1 has an astounding 64GB of internal storage capacity, in addition to one of the SIM card slots can be utilized for microSD cards.

The Mi A1 has a dual camera setup on the back, as is getting to be plainly regular with phones nowadays. One of them is a 12MP wide-point angle lens, and the other is a 12 MP zooming telephoto lens. While I wouldn’t call the photographs flagstip material quality, the A1 takes better than average pictures.

Conclusion – If you are in a nation where the Mi A1 is sold, I would suggest it. Xiaomi has made an astounding phone with Google’s assistance, and I trust it’s the first of numerous Android One phones from the organization.

For the present, Mi Mix 2 proprietors who are after the non-China experience of MIUI can utilize the recently released Global Stable ROM of MIUI rendition 8.5 that was quite recently released for the current week.

Xiaomi India recently declared an association with ZestMoney that will empower customers to purchase Xiaomi items on EMI, without the help of a credit card, from its site Mi.com. As a major aspect of the association,

ZestMoney will give the back end credit ability for Xiaomi India. Mi.com customers will experience a computerized procedure to get an affirmed credit limit.

Mi Fans will have the capacity to utilize this credit limit to pay for their request by utilizing “Cardless EMI” at the checkout.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Leaked

Redmi Note 5 will run on MIUI 9 in light of Android 7.0 Nougat.

As indicated by reports, Redmi Note 5 will dump its fat bezels for a less fatty front-end, taking monstrous motivation from its enormous sibling, the Mi MIX 2. It appears that the phone will wear a 6-inch screen size in a 5.5-inch frame factor. It holds the earpiece, selfie camera and sensor while it misses out on capacitive touch buttons, which will be most likely supplanted with on-screen buttons.

The classy smart-phone is expected to don Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 chipset for the Indian variation alongside 3/4GB RAM. It likewise has the likelihood to get a dual camera sensor at the back, much the same as the Mi A1. The upcoming phone will run on MIUI 9 in light of Android 7.0 Nougat.
