Download and install fonts on Redmi Note 5 Pro MIUI9 without root

The Downloading Procedure

1. Download and install MI Theme Editor and ifont apps on your device.
2. After you install these apps, open the ifont app, and you can see many fonts on the app.
3. Select the fonts you want to download and tap the Download button.
4. Once you download the fonts, click on the Theme download button. It is located in the top right corner. Now select OK and OK once again.

The Installing Procedure

1. Launch the MI Theme Editor on your device. You will be able to see options like Start and Browse.
2. Click the Browse button to chose previously downloaded font.
3. When the file manager loads up on your screen, go to the MIUI Theme folder and choose the font that you saved on your device.
4. Tap on the Start button in the MI Theme editor, to create the font theme. When redirected on the next page, do not select anything, and just tap on the NEXT button.
5. Next, check the “Edit file name or path” and rename the fonts. Make sure you name the theme, so you will know which theme you created.
6. Once you create the theme, open the Theme app on your device and tap the user button located in the bottom right corner.
7. When redirected to the next screen, tap on the Themes option.
8. Next, choose the Import Option.
9. Once again, go to the MIUI Theme folder and select the new fonts that you created using the MI Theme editor. Then tap OK (it is located below).
10. The last thing you need to do in this procedure is to tap on the green Apply button and reboot your device.
11. Once your phone boots up, you have the new fonts installed on it.

Note: Before performing any of the following steps I recommend backing up all your phone’s data on the external memory. Also, keep in mind that you are trying this method at your own risk.

Now, when we moved that out of the way, let’s begin.

Unlock Your MIUI Account

• The first thing you need to do is going to this link: http://en.miui.com/unlock There you can get your unlock permissions from the MIUI Account you are using. It is better to use a Mobile Number based account than an E-Mail ID-Based account.
• Once you received a form, fill in your details. Here you will need to mention why do you want to unlock your phone bootloader. Try to be as original as possible. Otherwise, they might deny your application.
• After you submit the application (few hours to few days), they will inform you via SMS telling you that your account is ready for unlocking.

Download the MiFlash Tool

• Go to the same link from before: http://en.miui.com/unlock This time they will provide you a download link for the MiFlash tool.
• Download the zip file and unzip it.
• Now, install the MI Drivers. Make sure you right-click the file and choose Run As Administrator.

Enable Developer Options

• On your Redmi Note 5 Pro, go to Settings > About Phone > Tap the MIUI Version 7-8 times. Once you enable the Developer Options, a toast message will notify you.
• Now, access Developer Options by going to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options. Sign in with your MIUI Account. Make sure you use the same one from the first step. Also, insert the SIM card of the same number that you’ve made the MIUI ID with.
• Next, you need to use VPN to switch to China Servers. PlexVPN is the app that you can use to do that. If you are using a later version of the app (than the attached one), select China Line 2 in the server and press connect.

Check OEM Unlock ON

• Once the device is connected, Go to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options. Turn on the OEM Unlock Option.
• Now, go to Device Unlock Status. Here you need to select the option Add Account and Device. That will bind the device with your account. Now, turn your phone off. But before, make sure you back up all of your data somewhere.

Unlock the Bootloader

• On your computer, right click on the MiFlash tool and run it as administrator.
• Fill up your MIUI account details, and the tool will check if you have a permission to unlock the bootloader. If everything is OK, it will give you instructions to connect your device in fastboot mode. To do so, press the volume down key + Power button until a fastboot screen shows up.
• Now, the MiFlash tool will ask you for permissions. Grant them, and you are almost there. Within 5 minutes it should unlock your Redmi Note 5 Pro bootloader. In some rare cases, it may show a message saying try after 72 or 360 hours. In that case, you will have to wait and try again later.

Download Google Camera for Redmi Note 5 Pro (whyred)

You must have root enabled on your device to continue!

1. Open your favorite file manager application with root feature.
2. Go to “/system” folder and find build.prop file.
3. Open this file with inbuilt text editor and add the following line:

   persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1

4. Save changes to “build.prop” file, copy downloaded Gcam mod to “/system/priv-app” folder and setup the following permissions to use the mod as system application: rw-r–r–
   • Otherwise you can simply install like the normal app, but don’t forget to reboot your phone firstly.
5. If you’ve installed modification as system app, you’ll need to reboot your device after you’ve copied the file to “/system/priv-app”.

How to enable video recording in 4k on Redmi Note 5 Pro?

1. Download and install Open Camera
2. Open Open Camera
3. Go to “Camera settings” by taping on the corresponding icon.
4. Go to “Video settings” > “Resolution” > and select “4k Ultra HD”
5. Done!

Here’s another method which required root and advanced file manager, Root Explorer for example.

1. Open Root Explorer
2. Go to “/system/etc/device_features/” folder.
3. Open “whyred.xml” with text editor.
4. Find this line “support_camera_4k_quality” and change value from “false” to “true”.
5. Reboot your phone.
6. If everything was right, you should now see 4K option in the camera settings.

How to flash Resurrection Remix on Redmi Note 5 Pro?

1. You must have TWRP Custom Recovery installed.
2. Download Gapps for Oreo (ARM64, 8.1) & Magisk app for root (optional).
3. Copy downloaded files together with downloaded ROM to phone memory.
4. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.
5. Wipe the following partitions “Data”, “System”, “Cache” and “Dalvik Cache”.
6. Confirm wipe with right swipe.
7. Now go back to main menu and press “Install”.
8. Firstly you’ll need to flash ROM .zip archive and then Gapps and Magisk.
9. Reboot into system.

If you’ll need to update from the previous version, then do the same steps above except in the step 5 don’t wipe “Data” partition, select only “System”, “Cache” and “Dalvik Cache”

How to flash custom ROM on Redmi Note 5 Pro (whyred)

Here’s a short tutorial on how to do all required steps and flash custom ROM on your phone. We will start with system backup via TWRP Custom Recovery. Remember to remove all security passwords before doing full backup. If you don’t remove passwords, you won’t be able to restore the backup.

1. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery and go to “Backup” menu.
2. For a normal backup you can select “System”, “Data”, “Boot” and “Vendor” partitions.
3. Select a location and put a password if you want to.
4. Continue with swipe and wait until backup is fully completed.

To restore the previously saved backup you’ll need to do the same steps but in reverse order. To restore broken firmware you need to select the following partitions (“System”, “Data”, “Boot” and “Vendor”, other partitions might cause errors). If you can restore the backup because of the lost password, use this patch: Reset_key_password.zip

Custom ROM Flashing Guide

1. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery and go to “Wipe” menu, select the “Dalvik/ART Cache”, “System”, “Data”, “Cache” and Vendor partitions. Swipe to confirm.
2. Go back to main menu, select “Reboot” and reboot into “Recovery” mode.
3. If you’re using memory card, it’s recommended to delete “Android”, “Lost.Dir” and “MIUI” folder using the TWRP file manager.
4. Go back to TWRP main menu again and tap on “Install” button, locate downloaded ROM file, optionally add Gapps (you should install Gapps before the first startup), root and patches.
5. After you’ve added all required files continue with install.
6. Wait until installation is completed.

How to update Custom ROM

If you’ve got the same ROM installed and you’ll need to update it to the new version, wipes aren’t required. If you still want to wipe some data, just do this with Cache partition. After the update all system changes will be gone (SuperSu, system patches and custom kernel), while other data and files (including Gapps and Magisk) will remain.
