How to flash Custom ROM on Xiaomi Mi A1

Here are a few thing which are required before you’ll start flashing any custom ROM. Before start I will highly recommend you to disable all pin-codes, graphic keys and fingerprint locks. Pay attention, that by installing any custom ROM version on your phone, you take all responsibility for any possible issues!

Next you’ll need to download and move to phone internal memory and internal SD card:

1. Required ROM .zip archive
2. Platform tools: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sV2dqzt-c_MMJvQ3r-2bLubIVpZrGZpl/view
3. Gapps
4. Magisk
5. Temporary or permanently installed TWRP Custom Recovery:
   • twrp-3.2.1-2-tissot.img (temporary) – Copy “twrp-3.2.1-2-tissot.img” to the “Folder” tools, if you have temporary installed TWRP you can skip this step.
   • twrp-3.2.1-2-installer-tissot.zip (installer)

Installing tutorial:

If you have a permanently installed TWRP on your device, then go straight to the step 5.

1. Open “Tools” folder, next open terminal window from this folder, boot your device in fastboot mode and connect it to PC.
2. Unlock the bootloader with the following command:

   fastboot oem unlock

3. Next enter the following command to boot your device in TWRP without installing it:

   fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-2-tissot.img

4. Your phone will boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.
5. In TWRP go to “Wipe” > “Format Data” and type “Yes” to confirm formatting.
6. Copy all required files to phone internal memory or SD card (ROM .zip archive, Gapps, TWRP-installer and magisk .zip arhive).
7. Go back to TWRP main menu and tap on “Install”.
8. Select the ROM .zip archive.
9. Press “Add more Zips” and select twrp-3.2.1-2-installer-tissot.zip.
10. Swipe right to confirm installation.
11. Go back to TWRP main menu and select “Reboot / Recovery”.
12. Go to “Install” menu and select Gapps (ARM64, Android 8.1), press “Add more Zips” and add “Magisk.zip”.
13. Swipe to confirm.
14. Reboot into system.

How to update Custom ROM on Mi A1?

Here’s a short tutorial on how you can upgrade your currently installed ROM version to the new one without loosing your data, settings and installed apps.

You must have permanently installed TWRP Custom Recovery on your phone.

1. Download and copy twrp-3.2.1-2-installer-tissot.zip, OpenGapps and Magisk.zip to phone internal memory or SD card.
2. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.
3. In TWRP go to “Wipe” > “Advanced Wipe” > Select “Dalvik” and “System” partitions. Swipe right to confirm.
4. Go back to main menu, tap on “Install” and select ROM .zip archive. Press “Add more Zips” and select twrp-3.2.1-2-installer-tissot.zip.
5. Swipe right to confirm installation.
6. Go back to TWRP main menu and tap on “Reboot / Recovery”.
7. Go to “Install” menu and select Gapps (ARM64, Android 8.1), press “Add more Zips” and add “Magisk.zip”.
8. Swipe right to confirm, then reboot into system.

How to enable Ok, Google on Xiaomi Mi A1 Custom ROM

Here’s a short step-by-step tutorial on how you can install Google Play app on Mi A1 with Custom ROM installed. If you already have “Google” app installed, then delete the installed app completely (you can use Sd Maid application for removal).

1. Download Google.zip, extract and copy files to “/system/app”.
2. Set up required permissions for “Google” folder – 755, and for Google.apk – 644.
3. Reboot your device.

If the apps crashes, go to the “Google” folder and manually install the .apk file.

Android OREO (Android 8) Port for Xiaomi Mi5X

Port of the official Android One firmware extracted from Mi A1 (OPR1.170623.026.8.1.10). Everything works. You’ll need to flash A1 Oreo Firmware to fix the fingerprint scanner.

Also recommended to install Google Camera and Pixel 2 Experience Magisk module.

How to flash Android Mi A1 ROM on Mi 5x?

• Make sure you’ve Tiffany Mi5X version before installing this ROM and unlock the bootloader.
• Backup EFS partition in TWRP Custom Recovery and flash A1 Oreo Firmware via fastboot.
• Install Oreo TWRP: tiffany-oreo-modded-twrp-3.2.1.img
• Boot into TWRP and wipe “Data”, “Cache” and “Dalvik” partitions.
• Flash downloaded ROM.
• Reboot into system.

In case you want to flash other ROM version you are required to install the corresponding firmware and TWRP version.

How to flash Resurrection Remix on Mi 5x?

• Make sure you’ve Tiffany Mi5X version before installing this ROM and unlock the bootloader.
• Install Oreo TWRP: tiffany-oreo-modded-twrp-3.2.1.img
• Boot into TWRP, make full backup of your system and wipe “System”, “Data”, “Cache” and “Dalvik” partitions.
• Flash downloaded ROM and OpenGapps.
• Wipe Cache in TWRP.
• Reboot into system.

Unlocking tutorial for Xiaomi Mi A1 (tissot)

1. The first step would be enabling the unlock on the phone itself. For this you’ll need to enable developer options first. To do this, you should go to “Settings” > “About phone” and tap 7-8 times on the build version. You’ll see a message that developers options are now enabled. Now go to “Settings” > “Advanced” > “Developer options” and activate “Enable OEM Unlock”.
2. Now boot your device in “bootloader” mode, to do this you’ll need to turn off your phone first, then press “Power” button and “Volume down” buttons at the same time. Otherwise you can use adb command “adb reboot bootloader”.
3. Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
4. Make sure you’ve downloaded and unpacked ADB drivers and tools: tools_r26.0.1-windows.zip
5. Now go to unpacked “Tools” folder, press and hold “Shift” key and right mouse click on empty space, in the menu select “Open command window here”. If you’re using Windows 10, make sure you’ve opened Windows (cmd) and not “PowerShell” app.
6. Now check if device is connected successfully by typing this command:

   fastboot devices

7. If everything was done successfully, you’ll see your device unique ID number. If you don’t see it, try reinstalling drivers and repeat everything again.
8. Now to finally and completely unlock the bootloader on your Xiaomi Mi A1 type one of the following commands (these commands are absolutely identical):

   fastboot oem unlock

   or

   fastboot flashing unlock

Rooting Xiaomi Mi A1 (tissot) with CF-Auto-Root

1. First you’ll need to unlock bootloader on your Xiaomi Mi A1 device. Please follow this post to find the complete unlocking tutorial.
2. Download one of the CF-Auto-Root archives and unpack download archive on your PC.
   • CFAR-tissot-default.zip
   • CFAR-tissot-SBIN.zip
3. Reboot your phone in fastboot mode.
4. Start the “root.bat” file from the previously downloaded and unpacked archive.
5. The root process should now start on your phone.
6. After the reboot, you should have root enabled.
7. Now you can manually install SuperSU to get advanced permissions. Also you can install Suhide app, in case you need to hide root and enable SBIN mode.
   • Download SuperSU 2.82: SuperSU-v2.82-SR5.apk
   • Download SuHide 1.09: suhide-v1.09.apk

How to root Mi A1 with Magisk

1. Unlock the bootloader.
2. Download Magisk app: Magisk-v14.5(1456).zip
3. Temporary boot into TWRP.
4. In TWRP main menu press on “Install” and locate the downloaded archive with Magisk app.
5. Reboot into system after installation is completed.
