Troubles happen at the most inopportune moment and no one is insured from this. With the latest innovation made by Xiaomi and I’m talking about the introduction of the “Anti Roll Back” system, cases of bricked devices have become much more frequent. At first, this could happen only with firmware downgrade, now it’s possible to get bricked device even with firmware update.

Follow this tutorial and learn how to restore hardbrick Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro and Redmi Note 5 in EDL (emergency download) mode.

Restore hardbricked Redmi 6 Pro in EDL mode

Pay attention – Do not update to ARB4 via TWRP Custm Recovery. Before unlocking the bootloader, it’s highly recommended to install the official MIUI firmware via fastboot. You can check the ARB and bootloader status on your device by following the tutorial below:

How to check ARB status on Redmi 6 Pro and Redmi Note 5 Global?

Reboot your device in fastboot mode.

Download and extract Platform Tools on “C:\” drive.

Go into the folder with unpacked archive, hold “Shift” key and right mouse click on an empty space. Select “Open command window here”.

Type the “fastboot devices” command in terminal and if your phone is successfully recognized, then type the next command “fastboot getvar anti” to see the ARB status.

The number “3” means that you can easily downgrade the firmware on your device, if you see the number “4”, that means that you can get a hardbrick as a result of downgrading.

Download Platform Tools: platform-tools-latest-windows.zip

Requirements:

You’ll need authorized MI account so you can flash your phone in EDL mode. To get this, you’ll most probably need to contact MIUI support a few times. To check the account permission find “account_auth.exe” in MiFlash folder and enter your account credentials.

QDLoader HS-USB Driver installed.

MiFlash Software installed, recommended version is 20180528.

Official ROM for fastboot which includes ARB4.

Hardbrick Xiaomi phone in your hands.

Now when you’ve got everything installed and got all required permissions, you can continue with unbricking tutorial:

Extract download fastboot ROM and MiFlash to the C:\ drive.

Start MiFlash tool.

Locate unpacked ROM and select “Clean All” option.

Press “refresh” to locate connected device.

Now press “flash”.

The new window will popup and you’ll need to enter your account credentials.

After successful authorization wait until the flashing process is finished completely.

In the end you’ll see a “success” message in “result” column.

Disconnect your device from PC and turn it on!

Just in case, here is the short list of possible issues:

You can only flash one single device using your Mi account.

If the flashing process doesn’t start try to reinstall drivers on your PC.

If you see “Unauthorized xiaomi account” that means that your account doesn’t have the required permissions.

I really hope that this guide will be helpful to you!

This guide will be useful for Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime (Pro, 3/32) owner, who wants to know how to reboot in EDL mode. We will also check out and find a solution if download mode (edl mode) is not accessible after developer rom flashing.

How to reboot Redmi 4 Prime in Download Mode (EDL)

Enter EDL mode from turned off device

You can enter download mode on your turned off Redmi 4 Prime just like on other Redmi devices. This is the most easiest way on how to boot in EDL and it works if there’s nothing wrong with your Redmi smartphone.

Press and hold “volume up” + power button;

When the screen turns on (MI logo is on a screen), remove power button and keep holding “volume up” until bootloader menu opens.

In case you need to switch to English language, press the yellow button in the bottom right corner.

Next select “Download”

Fix EDL Mode Issue after flashing to Developer ROM

This is a short and easy guide on how to solve problems entering EDL mode on Redmi 4 Prime / PRO after flashing to the latest developer ROM version.

Download the latest STABLE release (for example 8.0.6.0) , rename download archive to “update.zip” and move it “download_rom” folder on your phone storage.

Enter “Updater” app on your phone and press three dots icon at the top.

Select and tap on “Choose update package” and select previously downloaded and renamed “update.zip” archive.

Wait for the installation to complete and you should get working EDL mode.

How to enter EDL mode if Redmi 4 in bootloop and can’t be turned off

This method wasn’t actually tested by us on a real device, but we know for sure that it helped some users. So here’s the method on how to enter EDL in case your smartphone is in bootloop and is not turning on.

Few related issues:

Smartphone can not be turned off in any ways. Pressing power button just leads to screen to turn off and then device boots again and stuck on MI logo.

Holding volume button down and power button at the same time – Device goes into fastboot

Holding volume button up and power button at the same time – Stuck on MI logo

Holding all three buttons and remove power button after short vibration signal – Leads to a mode where pictured smartphone with USB cable.

Solution:

In case you found your trust old Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro stuck in bootloop, here’s a few easy steps that might come handy:

Disconnect your smartphone from PC (remove USB cable)

Hold all three button (vol up, vol down & power button) and wait until your device reboots two times and then it shutdown (in such order: MI logo appears on the screen > short vibration > MI logo appears on the screen > short vibration > MI logo appears on the screen).
