In this post you are going to find out how to bypass official unlocking and flash custom recovery and install any custom ROM version on your Xiaomi Redmi 3S or Redmi 3X device. All this without unlocking the bootloader!

How to install TWRP and flash Redmi 3S with locked bootloader

Before doing anything from this guide remember to make backup of your device. Make sure you’re completely understand on how to boot your Redmi 3S / 3X device in EDL and fastboot mode and you know how to use MiFlash. You take all responsibility for your actions!

So what’s the main point of this guide? Just to make things easier! Bypassing official MIUI unlocking is generally much easier than getting the official unlock. You don’t need to request and wait to get unlock permission and the process itself isn’t really complicated than the official unlock. The only thing is that you can’t reinstall TWRP version, that you will flash during this guide.

Required drivers for Redmi 3S and Redmi 3X

Basically all you need is to install the latest version of MiFlash. If you can’t install drivers for different modes, then you can try install them separately:

EDL mode drivers for Redmi 3S: QDLoader+HS-USB+Driver_32-64bit_Setup.zip

Fastboot drivers for Redmi 3S: Android_adb-USB_UnifL_Driver_v1.17.exe

How to enter EDL (download mode) on Redmi 3S and Redmi 3X

When you boot your Redmi 3S device in EDL mode device screen is rather black or turned off. There are two methods on how to boot in EDL mode:

First way is to hold both volume buttons and connect your device to PC.

If your device is in bootloop or hardbricked then try to hold all three buttons for a long time (around 60-90 seconds). First this will lead to reboot, you will get vibration signal, and then device reboot again, now it will be booted in EDL mode.

Another way is to use fastboot mode. Boot your Redmi 3S in fastboot and then type “fastboot oem edl”. Your device will be identified as “Qualcomm HSUSB-Qloader 9008”.

To exit EDL mode just hold the power button for a few seconds.

How to use fastboot mode on Redmi 3S and Redmi 3X

To boot into fastboot mode you need to hold down the volume button and press “Power” to turn your Redmi 3S device. In device manager your phone will be identified as “Android” or “Redmi3S”. You can use fastboot commands to reboot your device in different modes. If you press “Power” button for some time, your device will reboot back into the system.

How to use MiFlash to flash Redmi 3S device

Unpack downloaded ROM in any folder. For example “C:\rom”. In extracted MiFlash ROM version you’ll see “images” directory. Launch MiFlash tool, press “Browse” and select folder with ROM files. Then click “Refresh”, you’ll see COM port of your device. Select “flash all/clean all” mode. Don’t forget about backups! Press “Flash” to start flashing and wait until installation process is completed.

Your device will reboot. Currently we have installed some kind of Frankenstein ROM version.

Make full wipe with data formatting.

After full wipe and passing the welcome screen, reboot your device in recovery mode again (watch step 2).

Now repeat the step 4, but instead of China Developer ROM, we will flash Global ROM .zip file.

Watch the progress bar on your phone. Do not pay attention to the progress bar on your PC.

On the first reboot you’ll see some errors. Press “Cancel” and make factory reset.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully flashed Global ROM on your device with locked bootloader.

Second method:

Download and install Chinese MiSuite: http://zhushou.xiaomi.com/

Boot your device in recovery mode. To enter recovery mode: Turn off your device, then press and hold “Volume Up” + “Power” buttons. After Mi logo appeared, release the “Power” button and keep holding “Volume Up”. In the menu press “Recovery” button.

Open MiSuite and connect Redmi 4A to PC or laptop. A menu with 3 buttons should appear. Press the first button from the top.

Now we select Global ROM .zip file.

After short loading press the top button again.

Progress bar on your device should appear. Ignore errors in Mi Suite and wait until installation is completed.

On the first reboot you’ll see some errors. Press “Cancel” and make factory reset.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully flashed Global ROM!

We’ve been frequently asked about ways to reset the forgotten or lost graphic password on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, we decided to collect all available information in one single post. The thing is that on locked device with forgotten password, we just stuck at recovery mode without a anything we can do.

Reset forgotten password on Redmi Note 4

How to reset password with locked bootloader Redmi Note 4

First thing can do is flash TWRP recovery with SP Flash tool. Download recommended TWRP version: recovery.img (13.1 Mb) and Wipe all data. This will reset password on your device.

Another method is to wipe your device with SP Flash Tool. Another way is to flash official ROM again.

Next you can try to reset all settings in Mi PC Suite. This will reset password, screen lock pattern and fingerprint scanner. First download required Redmi Note 4 recovery ROM from official MIUI website. Download Chinese Mi PC Suite version: MiInst.exe (3.2 Mb)

Start Mi PC Suite.

Turn off your device and press Volume Up and Power buttons at the same time.

Recovery menu should appear.

Press “Recovery”;

Connect the USB cable to your device.

Mi PC Suite should identify your device and displays your device ROM version.

Next press the “Update” button in Mi PC Suite (it is located in the bottom, on the right side of the screen).

A new window should appear. First button is for selecting ROM. Second button for WIPE. Press “Wipe” button to wipe all data. Device will reboot.

Now press the first button and select ROM you want to flash on your device.

Press the first button to start flashing.

Wait until flashing process is completed.

And the last possible solution: If you’ve got Google Account on your device, you can sign into your account and delete all data. Same thing you can do with your Mi account.

How to reset password with unlocked bootloader Redmi Note 4

If you’ve got unlocked bootloader device, it’s much easier to reset forgotten password. Boot in TWRP recovery mode and delete these files:

gatekeeper.password.key

gatekeeper.pattern.key

locksettings.db

locksettings.db-shm

locksettings.db-wal

In this tutorial we will show you how to install international MIUI ROM like MultiROM, MiuiPro or Xiaomi.eu ROM on Markw device with locked bootloader.

Note! Only for Redmi 4 Prime 3/32 versions!

Flashing Xiaomi.eu MIUI ROM on Locked Redmi 4 Prime

To flash international MIUI ROM from Xiaomi.eu or MultiROM you must have MiFlash and all required drivers installed on your PC. Also you need to have any ROM installed on your device.

First you’ll need to enable developer options and enable OEM UNLOCKING.

Go to “Settings” > “About phone” > Tap a few times on MIUI version to enable developer options. Also go to developer options and enable OEM UNLOCKING.

Download and extract _PatchLockedBL.zip and install this patch using MiFlash just like a usual ROM.

To do this you’ll need to boot your Redmi 4 Prime device in download mode (EDL). To enter EDL mode on Redmi 4 Prime: reboot your device and hold power button with volume up. Here’s our post on how to enter EDL mode on Redmi 4 Prime smartphone.

Now turn off your device and enter fastboot mode (vol – and power button at the same time).

Download and extract TWRP.zip and run “doit1.bat” file.

Device will reboot. First startup will take around 10-15 minutes.

After reboot enter fastboot mode again and run “doit2.bat” file.

TWRP recovery should start. Disable password and allow changes to “system” partition. Make swipe to confirm.

Enter “Wipe” and select data format. Type “yes” and swipe to continue. Enter main menu again and press “Reboot” > “Power Off”.

Hold three buttons to enter TWRP again. Enter “Wipe” > “Advanced Wipe” > Select all partitions except “system” > Swipe to confirm.

Enter main menu press “Reboot” > “Turn off”

Hold three buttons and enter TWRP again.

Copy International MIUI ROM to phone internal storage and install via TWRP.

That’s it! Now you’ve got unofficial international ROM installed on your device!

Remember! Do not wipe “system” partition or you’ll get bootloop and bricked Redmi 4 Prime in your hands.

In case you’ve stuck with doit1.bat file do the following:

Replace emmc_appsboot.mbn file to patched one and install with “clear all” option.

Skip steps with “doit1.bat” file and continue with “doit2.bat”.

Download links:

_PatchLockedBL.zip

TRWP.zip
