Tutorial on how to create custom boot logo for MIUI smartphone

Requirements

1. You need a rooted Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (with any ROM).
2. Optional: Installed Custom Recovery, Terminal Emulator or working fastboot on your computer.
3. Keep in mind that you are performing this procedure at your own risk.

How to Create the Splash Image

1. Download and extract this file Redmi_Note_3_Splash_Maker.zip
2. Make sure you create (or select) a picture with a resolution of 1080x1920px or lower.

By default, Redmi Note 3 logo (splash image) has a fixed size of 75Kb. So, you should use only light-weight images. My recommendation is to stick with 2 or 3 colors (black and white for example). You might need to try different variants before getting the final one.

3. Rename your final image to logo.jpg or logo.png according to its format.
4. Place the image file inside the pics folder of the extracted folder (Redmi Note 3 Splash Maker).
5. Now, run the CREATE_Logo.bat to make the splash.img file. Once you finish that, you can find the file inside the output folder.

Possible Issues when Creating Splash.img

You may get an error PICTURE IS LARGE IN SIZE if its size does not meet the requirements (75Kb max size). In that case, you can try any of the following methods.

1. Try compressing your image using compersspng.com. That can reduce the number of colors in one PNG image. Upload your picture > click on Settings > Reduce the number of colors to 2 > Apply the changes > Download the new image.
2. Try reducing the image resolution. Use any of the popular image editing software (Photoshop or similar). Open the image using the photo editing software, and reduce the image resolution (it cannot be bigger than 1080×1920 px).
3. If the previous methods didn’t give you the expected results, you should try with a different image.

How to Flash Splash.img

Once you got the splash.img file ready, it is time to flash it on your device.

Flash Using Custom Recovery

1. Transfer the flasable_splash.zip file to your device.
2. Boot your device into Custom Recovery (TWRP, or CWM, or Philz, or any other custom recovery).
3. Locate it in the memory and flash it.

Flash Using Terminal Emulator

1. First, transfer the splash.img file to your device’s internal memory.
2. Launch Terminal Emulator and enter the following code to flash the file.

su

dd if=/sdcard/splash.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/splash

Flash Using Fastboot Mode

1. Connect your device to your computer.
2. Launch fastboot on your computer.
3. Type in the following command:
   fastboot flash splash splash.img

In case something went wrong, or your device doesn’t boot up, you can always flash the stock splash.img using the same procedures explained above (using custom recovery or fastboot).

The solution explained above should also work on other devices running Android 6 (and do not support adoptable memory out-of-the-box). Additionally, you DO NOT need to root your device to make this work.

Adoptable Storage on Redmi Note 3 with Android 6 (No Root Required)

What You Need

Before starting the procedure explained below, make sure you have the following things.

1. Computer
2. Phone running Android 6 (or above)
3. Fast MicroSD card (preferably UHS class 1 or above)
4. Backup of all your important files from the SD card (it will be formatted during the process)

How to Enable the Adaptable Storage

Before performing the steps keep in mind that we are not responsible if you get any troubles during the procedure. You are doing this at your own risk.

1. Enable Developer Options on your Android device (Settings > About Phone > Tap 7 times on “MIUI Version”)
   1. Enable “Stay Awake”
   2. Disable “MIUI Optimization”
   3. Enable “USB Debugging”
2. Download and install “ADB and Fastboot” on your PC (or Mac)
   1. Download link: platform-tools_r27.0.1-windows – Check this post for more info.
3. Connect your Android device via USB to your computer.
4. Run a command window and type the following commands (make sure you run it as administrator).
   1. adb shell
   2. sm set-force-adoptable true
   3. sm list-disks
      1. Now, you should get a result like this disk:179,64
   4. sm partition disk:xxx,xx private/mixed xx
      1. This command is reformating your SD card. Change xxx,xx according to your results from above (e.g. 179,64).
      2. Use private in the command if you want to use the whole SD card as adoptable storage.
      3. Type mixed xx in the command if you want a specific percentage of the SD card formatted as “portable” storage (e.g. mixed 60). That will leave 40% adoptable storage.
      4. Check the success on your Android device (Settings > Storage).
   5. sm list-volumes
      1. Now, you should get a result like this: private:179,67 mounted fb705131-c6a0-4e3a-959b-605a64364c8c
   6. pm move-primary-storage xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx
      1. Migrate data to the adoptable storage, cahnge the xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxxxx part according to the prior results (e.g. fb705131-c6a0-4e3a-959b-605a64364c8c).
      2. Check the process on your Android device (“Moving data” in your status bar).
5. Install the QuickShortcutMaker app from the PlayStore.
   1. Find “com.android.settings” in the Activity-tab.
   2. Find “com.android.settings.Applications.ManageApplications”
   3. Now, create a shortcut for it on your home screen.
6. Reboot your device.
7. Use the shortcut you’ve created to manage apps and move them to the adoptable storage (named as “External Storage”).

Additional Notes

• Keep in mind that not all apps can be moved to the adoptable storage.
• The system settings may not show the correct storage sizes. You should use “MI File Manager instead.
• All the icons of applications stored in the adoptable storage will be moved to your home screen after every reboot. If you want to keep them in folders, you will have to do it manually after each reboot.
• If you want to install new updates, you will have to move the downloaded update to your SD card manually. Then choose it as a source file in the Updater app.

Restore EFS on Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon Variants Only)

Do these instructions if you erased your EFS or is corrupted, if not then follow the next guide to change your IMEI number. Sometimes you lose your IMEI only and not the whole partition.

Instructions:

1. Download this file: EFS Backup(Kenzo) EFS Backup[Dump][Kenzo].rar

2. Extract the Dump backup files and flash them using this commands:

   Fastboot flash modemst1 modemst1
   Fastboot flash modemst2 modemst2

3. The final step is to reboot, and you will have new EFS partition.

Note:

• Your IMEI and Baseband will be shown as unknown if your EFS is erased or corrupted. The first thing you must do is to recover the EFS and then change IMEI. If your IMEI is shown as 0, your EFS is safe and probably your IMEI is gone. In that case, don’t recover EFS just change the IMEI number.
• In TWRP, backup of kate won’t show on Kenzo and the backup up Kenzo won’t show on kate, next you will try the dump flashing method or try changing the TWRP recovery.
• These instructions are only to restore your EFS partition, but the IMEI will be still gone, next step you must do is to change your IMEI.
• After flashing new EFS, your Mac and BT address will not recover. Android system will assign a software generated address to both devices. Even without the EFS partition, there will be a Mac and BT address assigned to your device, and they will work regularly.

Change IMEI Number

Requirements:

• Root
• USB debugging is turn on
• Windows Driver Signature is turned off
• ADB and Fastboot Binary files
• Latest MiFlash installed for the latest drivers

Instructions:

1. Connect your device to PC and open the ADB folder. Then open command prompt window.

Press Shift + Right Click anywhere in the adb folder

Click on Open Command Window Here

2. Type the following command to enable Diagnostics mode, if you are asked allow debugging. Code:

   Adb shell
   Su
   Setprop sys.usb.config diag,adb

3. Download IMEI Changer from this link:

4. Open the IMEI Changer and enter IMEI number in both the fields and click start. After a short moment, it will show as passed.

Note: Make sure the driver in driver management under ports is listed as “ Qualcomm HS-USB Android DIAG 901D” and not as “Marshall London HS-USB Android DIAG 901D”. If it listed in any other name, go to driver management and update driver. Select browse driver, then let me pick a driver from a list. Next step is to select “Qualcomm HS-USB Android DIAG 901D” and then finish.

Often times the Pro version is simply not needed for the things that you intend to use it for. So to be certain as to whether you should get the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 or the Pro version, the following is a brief intro to what each phone has to offer.

Should You Get the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 or the Pro Version?

The Form Factor

The Note 3 is a bit smaller than the Pro version, as the Note 3 comes in at dimensions of 150.00 x 76.00 x 8.65 (mm), while the Pro comes in at 151.50 x 76.20 x 8.15.

The Verdict?

Though the Pro version offers slightly better specs in terms of processing power, memory, and display quality, the Redmi Note 3 offers great functionality for the lower price of $250 compared to the Pro’s $350.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Flashing Tutorial for Windows

We want to cover a step-by-step method on how you can flash fastboot Official MIUI ROM version on your Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kenzo) using MiFlash tool. How to install Qualcomm drivers on Windows?

Here’s two methods on how to install Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 on your PC. In first method we will use turned on phone, while the second method require you to boot your phone in fastboot mode.

First method:

1. Connect your device to PC.
2. Double tap on “Minimal ADB and Fastboot” shortcut and type the following commands:

   01.adb version
   02.adb devices
   03.adb reboot edl

3. Phone screen will turn black and red light is flashing, this means you’ve successfully booted your Redmi Note 3 Pro in EDL mode.
4. Now install Qualcomm drivers from “Qualcomm Driver” folder.
5. After successful installation your connected device should be recognized as “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM10)” in device manager.
6. Run MiFlash as administrator.

Second method (fastboot):

1. Turn off your phone.
2. Start it in fastboot mode by pressing “Volume Down” + “Power” buttons.
3. Connect your device to PC and check how it is recognized in device manager. You’ll need to reinstall Qualcomm driver.
4. Download fastboot_edl.7z
5. Unpack downloaded archive and open command prompt from this folder.
6. Type this command “fastboot_edl reboot-edl” and follow the instructions above to install “Qualcomm Driver”.

How to flash fastboot ROM on Redmi Note 3 Pro with MiFlash

1. Let’s assume your phone is in EDL mode.
2. Start MiFlash Tool and press “select” button.
3. Locate the folder with previously downloaded and unpacked fastboot ROM files.
4. Select “Flash All” and “Clean All” options.
5. Next press “Refresh” button. You should see “COM-10” port or similar. This means that device is connected successfully.
6. Now press “Flash” button and wait around 15 minutes until installation is completed.
7. After installation process is finished, press and hold “Power” button to reboot your device.
8. That’s it!

Root Redmi Note 3 CN-EN Official Stable 7.2.5.0 with locked bootloader

Here’s a working tutorial on how you can root Redmi Note 3 device with China Official Stable MIUI 7.2.5.0 ROM without unlocking bootloader on your Xiaomi device. In this tutorial we will install patched boot.img, root our device with KingRoot and then roll back to stock boot.img file.

Before you’ll start, here’s a list of required things:

• You should know how to work with SP Flash Tool.
• Installed SP Flash Tool 5.1516.
• Official Stable ROM 7.2.5.0.
• Patched boot.img and KingRoot. Download here.

Now we can begin:

1. Download Official Stable ROM 7.2.5.0.
2. Download and install SP Flash Tool 5.1516.
3. Download patched boot.img
4. Copy KingRoot app to phone memory and install (do not start it yet).
5. Turn off your device.
6. Start SP Flash Tool, select agent file from SP Flash Tool folder, and scatter file from “CrackedBoot” folder from boot.img patch archive.
7. Press “Download”. Select only “boot” and remove “preloader”.
8. Press “Volume down” button and connect your device to PC.
9. Wait until flashing process is completed.
10. If everything was done correctly, start KingRoot and enable ROOT.
11. After you’ve enabled ROOT, shutdown your Redmi Note 3 device.
12. Now open SP Flash Tool again and flash stock boot.img from “OriginalBoot” folder. Select only “boot” and remove “preloader”.
13. After installation is completed, reboot into system and enjoy root on your RN 3 device.

How to replace KingRoot to SuperSU

1. Download SuperSU 2.65
2. Unpack SuperSU archive into phone internal memory.
3. Download and install Terminal Emulator.
4. Open Terminal Emulator and enter these commands:

   su
   sh /sdcard/supersu/start.sh

5. After installation is completed you’ll see a notification on replace kinguser, press “Enter”.
6. Next you should see a SuperSU popup with “Update binary file” message, confirm updating, select “normal” and press “Ok”.
7. Now in terminal app you’ll see “Done and Enjoy SuperSu” message.
