Which ROM Does My Redmi 4 Need?

Open Settings → About phone and look at the OS version. The two letters before XM at the end show your region:

Region Ends with Example
Global MIXM V10.2.2.0.MCEMIXM
China CNXM V10.2.2.0.MCECNXM

Install a ROM of the same region your phone already runs. A different region needs an unlocked bootloader and a Fastboot ROM.

How to Install Redmi 4 Firmware

Recovery ROM (no PC, keeps your data)

  1. Download the Recovery ROM (.zip) for your region and move it to the root of the internal storage.
  2. Open Settings → About phone, tap the OS version card, then the three dots → Choose update package.
  3. Select the ZIP and wait until the phone installs it and reboots.

Fastboot ROM (PC, clean install)

  1. Unlock the bootloader first: HyperOS bootloader unlock guide.
  2. Install ADB, Fastboot and USB drivers and Mi Flash Tool.
  3. Extract the .tgz with 7-Zip, boot the phone into Fastboot (Power + Volume Down) and check the codename with fastboot getvar product: it must say prada.
  4. Select the ROM folder in Mi Flash, choose Clean all and click Flash.

Warning: never use Clean all and lock with a ROM from a different region or with any modified software. Re-locking a mismatched phone makes it unbootable.

  • China: V10.2.2.0.MCECNXM (Stable, May 21, 2019)

How long will the Redmi 4 get updates?

Xiaomi lists the Redmi 4 (as “Redmi 4”) as end of life: it no longer receives software or security updates. The firmware on this page is the final official release. Source: Xiaomi Security Center.

Are these files official?

Yes. Every download goes straight to Xiaomi’s servers (bigota.d.miui.com or Xiaomi’s Aliyun storage). We don’t host or modify the files. Compare the MD5 shown on the download page after downloading.

Recovery or Fastboot ROM: which one should I download?

Use the Recovery ROM to update without a PC and keep your data. Use the Fastboot ROM with Mi Flash to fix a bootloop, change region or do a clean install. It needs an unlocked bootloader and erases the phone.
