Didn’t help? Ok, let’s try more complicated solution. We assume your Mi A1 is in bootloop and you can’t flash fresh ROM version using the fastboot mode, because the bootloader is locked, and there’s no way you can unlock it now. If your Mi A1 phone doesn’t react to any buttons and just shows black screen and any other similar situations could be possibly fixed with this guide.

1. Download official fastboot MIUI ROM for Mi A1, the first Android Nougat version in this case: N2G47H.7.8.23
2. Extract downloaded ROM (twice if needed), so you’ll see the following folder with the “Images” folder inside:
3. Download and install latest version of MiFlash tool: MiFlashSetup_eng.msi
4. Make sure you’ve all required drivers for Mi A1 installed on your PC.
5. Disassemble your phone and disconnect the battery connector:
6. Grab the USB cable and insert to phone only, do not connect to PC at this point.
7. Take any suitable tool, wire clip for example and use it to connect two test points on the device board. Watch this video:
8. Keep test points together and connect your phone to PC by inserting USB cable in to PC.
9. Open “Device Manager” and check if the phone is defined as COM-port, “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” in our case.
10. If everything is right, then you can disconnect test-points and continue to the next step. If not, then re-check if all the drivers are installed.
11. Start MiFlash tool, press “select” and open the folder with ROM files.
12. Press “Ok”.
13. Find and enable “clean all” option.
14. Press “Refresh” button and check if your phone is defined as “COM-port” in “device” column.
15. Continue by press “flash” button.
16. Wait until installation is completed.

How to Flash Global ROM on Redmi 4 Prime with China Stable using MiFlash & EDL

1. Download and install QDLoader HS-USB Driver (32/64-bit) and ADB Driver Lite (32/64-bit).
2. Boot your Redmi 4 Prime in EDL (download mode). Check this post for the full tutorial.
3. Make sure you have a correctly installed Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 drivers.
4. Download and start MiFlash tool.
5. Select the “/images” folder.
6. In MiFlash select “ClearAll”.

Before you’ll start using XiaoMiTool here’s a few things you must know:

• First of all to flash any ROM version and use all features of XiaoMiTool you’ll need to officially unlock bootloader on your phone using the MiFlashUnlock tool. Otherwise, you can flash only Official ROM with locked bootloader.
• To use XiaoMiTool you must have a phone with a fully working ROM, you can’t use XiaoMiTool with softbricked / hardbrick devices.
• After flashing any ROM version all data will be deleted, remember to make backups!

3. XiaoMiTool will automatically detect information about your device, all available ROMs and shows the suitable method for flashing as well as which bootloader lock state is required. Your phone may reboot during this process, it’s normal.

In the latest MIUI ROM’s, Xiaomi has closed the EDL (Download mode). So, to follow this tutorial you must have installed 7.2.13.0 (or previous) ROM. In case you’ve got a newer ROM version installed on your device, then you’ll need to request unlock permission and use another instruction on how to flash Xiaomi Mi5 with unlocked bootloader.

Otherwise, there’s also another method on how to enter EDL mode on Xiaomi Mi5, for this you’ll need to get Engineering Cable (or make it by yourself).

Flashing ROM on locked bootloader Xiaomi Mi 5 with MiFlash

Ok, so first you’ll need to check what ROM version is currently installed on your device. If you’ve got 7.2.13.0 or older, then continue to follow the steps below:

In case everything is ok, we use another command to boot into EDL mode: “adb reboot edl”.
7. At this point, your phone should reboot into EDL (download) mode.
8. Let’s flash our Mi5 phone.
9. Run MiFlash.exe as administrator and press “Refresh” button.
10. You should some port number, COM3 or COM10 for example.
11. In case you see a yellow signal, then update installed drivers manually.
12. Next, in MiFlash press “Select” or “Browse” and locate the folder with unpacked ROM files.
13. In the bottom select “clean all” or “flash all” option. This will lead to clean ROM installation and deletion of all data.
14. Press “Flash” to start ROM installation. You should see a progress bar at this point. Flashing takes around 5-7 minutes. If everything was successful you’ll see a “The operation is completed successfully” message on the screen.
15. That’s it. The phone doesn’t automatically reboots. Disconnect it from PC and start by pressing the “Power” button. First startup will take around 5-7 minutes.

In case you stuck with some errors:

• You’re using old version of MiFlash, try installing a newer version.
• Try unpacking ROM again.
• Drivers aren’t installed.

In case of hardbricked Mi5 device you may try boot into the EDL mode through fastboot:

1. Boot your Mi5 device in fastboot mode (turn off > press “Power” and “Volume Down” buttons and wait for fastboot logo to appear on the screen).
2. Connect your device to PC.

Complete guide on flashing Xiaomi Mi6 with MIUI ROM

Flash Xiaomi Mi6 with MiFlash Tool

Flashing with locked bootloader

Use this flashing method if you don’t have official unlock permission from MIUI, or you can’t unlock bootloader on your Xiaomi Mi6 device using the standard method. The difference is that with locked bootloader you need to use EDL (emergency download mode), while with unlocked bootloader you can use fastboot mode.

How to boot Xiaomi Mi6 into EDL Mode

Note that while your device is in EDL mode doesn’t show any signs of life. 

After you’ve booted your Mi6 device in download mode, you should see Qualcomm HS-USB QLoader 9008 in device manager.

Boot Xiaomi Mi6 into EDL with unlocked bootloader

First method: Connect your device to PC and find it in device manager. Open notification bar and tap on “Connected in charging mode”, then select “Transfer files (MTP) mode”. Device manager will update the list of connected devices. Now enable “Developer options”. Go to “Settings” > “About Phone” > and tap seven times on “MIUI version”. After you’ve enabled developer options, go back to settings and select “Advanced settings” > “Developer options”. Enable “USB debugging”. Open command prompt and test if your device connected successfully. In command prompt type:

adb devices

The phone will display “Allow debugging from this computer?” message. Confirm by pressing OK. In the command prompt you’ll see “List of devices attached” and unique device number. Next type:

adb reboot edl

Your device should reboot into download mode. If it simply reboots in system, then this method doesn’t work for you. This is pretty much ok, just continue to another method.

Fastboot method: Boot Xiaomi Mi6 in fastboot mode. Enable “USB debugging” and in command prompt type:

adb reboot bootloader

Your device should reboot into fastboot mode. Another method to boot into fastboot mode is to turn off your device. Press “Power” and “Volume down” button. After you’ve started your device in fastboot mode, type:

fastboot oem edl

Your device will boot in EDL. Remember you should have unlocked bootloader to use this method. If you don’t have unlocked bootloader you can try using engineering cable, but MIUI disabled this method on newest ROM versions.

Download Stable fastboot ROM and unpack into “C:\fastb” or any other folder with similar name. Let’s continue with flashing our Xiaomi Mi6 device. Start MiFlash.exe as administrator and press “Refresh”. COM port number is not very important, but remember to connect your device only to rear USB ports.

In MiFlash press “Select” or “Browse” (in older versions) and locate the folder with downloaded ROM files. Click “Flash” to start flashing. The flashing process should start, it will take around 5 minutes. After flashing is completed you’ll see “The operation is completed successfully” message or similar. Now disconnect your device from PC and hold power button until you’ll see Mi logo. First startup will take longer than usual.

Pay attention! If you’re flashing to Weekly or Developer MIUI ROM, you’ll most probably get hardbrick or bootloop device, engineering (deep flash) cable isn’t working no more, EDL mode also isn’t working, here’s an solution for you:

1. Download Chinese version of Mi PC Suite.
2. Boot your device in Recovery mode (turn off Xiaomi Mi6 and press and hold “Volume up” and “Power” button).
3. You’ll see 3 buttons with Chinese symbols. Press the last one (third) and you’ll device icon.
4. Run Mi PC Suite, connect your device to PC. You should see a pop-up window with one single button. Click on it.
5. Next you’ll see a window with your currently installed ROM version.
6. Now press the first button and select ROM file you want to flash (Important! You can’t flash Global Stable or Developer ROM, you’ll get an error).
7. Download China Stable ROM. Select it.
8. The ROM version will be checked, if everything is fine you’ll see green message, this means everything is ok.
9. Press the first button. On your PC you’ll see a progress bar and 0% (it won’t move). On your mobile device you’ll also see a progress bar.
10. Wait around 10-15 minutes, your device will automatically boots into system.

Flash unlocked bootloader Xiaomi Mi6 with MiFlash

Start Xiaomi Mi6 in fastboot mode.

1. Your Xiaomi Mi6 will be identified in device manager.
2. Download Stable fastboot ROM and unpack into “C:\fastb” or any other folder with similar name.
3. Start MiFlash.exe as administrator and press “Refresh”. Remember to connect your device only to rear USB ports.
4. In MiFlash press “Select” or “Browse” (in older versions) and locate the folder with downloaded ROM files.
5. Click “Flash” to start flashing. The flashing process should start, it will take around 5 minutes.
6. After flashing is completed you’ll see “The operation is completed successfully” message or similar.
7. Now disconnect your device from PC and hold power button until you’ll see Mi logo. First startup will take longer than usual.

Flash Xiaomi Mi6 with Updater app

This is the most convenient and simple method. It does not require unlocked bootloader and ton of drivers and software on your PC. Main disadvantage of this method is that it simply does not always work, and you can’t make backups. Features of this method:

• If you downgrade MIUI ROM version, all personal data will be wiped.
• Update from “Vietnam” ROM version to official MIUI ROM may not work.
• You can’t update from Official China MIUI ROM to Global ROM (and vice versa).
• Bootloader lock state isn’t matter.
• This method may not work on custom or localized ROM versions (supported on xiaomi.eu).

Installation process:

1. Download MIUI ROM .zip file (for recovery) and copy on your phone memory (it’s recommended to download ROM using your phone).
2. Open the “Updater” app.
3. Tap the three dots icon in the top-right corner.
4. Select ROM.
5. Locate downloaded MIUI ROM .zip file.
6. Wait > reboot your device.
7. If you stuck with “Can’t verify update package”, try other flashing methods.

How to flash Xiaomi Mi6 with TWRP Custom Recovery

1. If you’re flashing from one localized ROM to another, you must wipe every partition. Otherwise you’ll most probably stuck with some bugs and errors.
2. Before continue with this tutorial, make all required backups and save them to your PC or other device.
3. Boot into TWRP Custom Recovery.
4. In TWRP main menu select “Wipe” > “Advanced” > Select “Cache, Dalvik Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage” (Do not select other partitions!!!). Swipe to confirm.
5. After wipe is completed, you’ll see “Done” message, go back to TWRP main menu > Reboot > Reboot into recovery.
6. Your device will be completely clean, without any files.
7. Now connect your device to your PC and copy downloaded ROM .zip file for recovery.
8. Disconnect from PC.
9. Now go to “Install” and select ROM .zip file. Remove checkbox against “Check MD5” and swipe to confirm.
10. Wait until installation is completed. You should see “done” message.
11. Wipe “Cache” and “Dalvik”. Wait until “done” is appeared.
12. Reboot into system.
13. First startup will be longer than usual.

How to flash Xiaomi Mi6 with Mi PC Suite

This method is used for flashing the official MIUI ROM with any bootloader lock status. Along the way, Mi PC Suite installs all drivers on your PC if they are not already installed. If you want to flash your Mi6 device through Mi PC Suite in recovery mode, you need to have an official stock recovery on your device. In case you’ve got TWRP Custom Recovery installed on your device, you can always roll back to stock recovery by entering the fastboot command: “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img”. You can find stock recovery .img file in any official .tgz ROM file.

Flashing Mi6 with Mi PC Suite

1. Download and install Chinese version of MiPhoneManager (Mi PC Suite) here or here zhushou.xiaomi.com;
2. Run Mi PC Suite and connect USB cable to your device. Do not connect to PC yet.
3. Update MiPhoneManager if possible.
4. Next you’ll need to select a flashing mode. “Recovery” mode is for locked bootloader, while “fastboot” mode works only on unlocked bootloader. Use volume buttons to select the mode and “Power” button to confirm.
5. Now connect your device to PC.
6. If you’ve chosen a recovery mode you’ll see a window with 4 buttons:
   • Download ROM
   • Select ROM file from PC
   • Factory reset
   • Reboot device
7. If you’ve chosen a fastboot mode:
   1. First field is an device model
   2. Second field: Chinese ROM or Global
   3. Stable or Developer ROM
   4. Check-mark is for full wipe after flashing
   5. Buttons in the bottom: Left button means select ROM file, and right button is to download ROM.

If you flash with recovery mode, you should make factory reset manually. After ROM is flashted enter the recovery mode again and make factory reset (via recovery app or MiPhoneManager).

Install Qualcomm QDLoader USB and MediaTek Drivers for Xiaomi

Generally speaking, you must have MiFlash installed before doing any manipulations with your Xiaomi device. It is used for flashing ROM on Xiaomi smartphones. MiFlash tool also comes very handy when you need to restore hardbrick, softbrick or bootloop device. Before installing MiFlash tool you need to disable driver signature enforcement on Windows PC. Check out this guide for more information.

How to install MiFlash on PC

Download and unpack MiFlash archive on your PC (check out this post for the MiFlash latest version). Now restart your PC and disable driver signature enforcement. After restarting the computer, start the MiPhone.exe from unpacked archive. Select installation path and click “Next”. During the installation you must confirm security system messages by selecting “Install this driver anyway”. When installation is completed, you’ll see short instruction about how to configure your device to access the internal memory. Read the instructions and press “End” button.

Now you’ve got MiFlash tool installed, as well as some default drivers. You can already start using MiFlash, but it’s recommended to install additional drivers for your device. Let’s continue.

Download and install Qualcomm QDLoader USB Drivers for Xiaomi device

Download and unpack the archive with Qualcomm QDLoader USB Drivers for Xiaomi smartphones. After unpacking the downloaded archive with Qualcomm USB drivers, run the .exe installer for your system. On the first screen select the suitable network driver (usually it is WWAN-DHCP) and click “Next”.

Read and confirm the license agreement and click “Next” again to continue. Click “Install” to install Qualcomm QDLoader drivers on your PC. Installation process should start. In order for the installed drivers to take effect and start working, you must restart your PC.

Download and install MediaTek Drivers for Xiaomi device

Before installing MediaTek drivers you must first disable digital signature verification on your PC. Find tutorial here.

Download and unpack MediaTek drivers on your PC. After you’ve unpacked the downloaded archive find android_winusb.inf, right mouse click on this file and select “Install”. Confirm installation by selecting “Install this driver anyway”. Restart your PC after installation is completed.

Redmi 4X MIUI 8.2.1.0 Global ROM for MiFlash

Redmi 4X MIUI 8.2.1.0 Global ROM for TWRP Custom Recovery

1. Download and unpack TWRP.zip to SD card or phone internal memory.
2. The path should be TWRP\BACKUPS\504c9aec7ce4\1970-01-10–08-23-41_MMB29M
3. Where “504c9aec7ce4” should be replaced with your device unique serial number. To find device serial number go to “Settings” > “General information”.
4. In TWRP main menu select “Wipe” > “Advanced”.
5. Wipe “Dalvik / ART Cache”, “Cache”, “System”, “Data”, “Cust”. Swipe to confirm.
6. Now go to “Restore” and select “System”, “Cust” and “Boot”. Swipe to confirm.
7. Reboot into system. You should now have MIUI 8.2.1.0.MAMMIEA installed on your Redmi 4X device.

If you’re upgrading from  8.2.0.2. to 8.2.1.0. you can skip “Cache” and “Data” partitions wipe, this way you’ll upgrade the system without deleting installed apps.
