Note: Before performing any of the following steps I recommend backing up all your phone’s data on the external memory. Also, keep in mind that you are trying this method at your own risk.

Now, when we moved that out of the way, let’s begin.

Unlock Your MIUI Account

• The first thing you need to do is going to this link: http://en.miui.com/unlock There you can get your unlock permissions from the MIUI Account you are using. It is better to use a Mobile Number based account than an E-Mail ID-Based account.
• Once you received a form, fill in your details. Here you will need to mention why do you want to unlock your phone bootloader. Try to be as original as possible. Otherwise, they might deny your application.
• After you submit the application (few hours to few days), they will inform you via SMS telling you that your account is ready for unlocking.

Download the MiFlash Tool

• Go to the same link from before: http://en.miui.com/unlock This time they will provide you a download link for the MiFlash tool.
• Download the zip file and unzip it.
• Now, install the MI Drivers. Make sure you right-click the file and choose Run As Administrator.

Enable Developer Options

• On your Redmi Note 5 Pro, go to Settings > About Phone > Tap the MIUI Version 7-8 times. Once you enable the Developer Options, a toast message will notify you.
• Now, access Developer Options by going to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options. Sign in with your MIUI Account. Make sure you use the same one from the first step. Also, insert the SIM card of the same number that you’ve made the MIUI ID with.
• Next, you need to use VPN to switch to China Servers. PlexVPN is the app that you can use to do that. If you are using a later version of the app (than the attached one), select China Line 2 in the server and press connect.

Check OEM Unlock ON

• Once the device is connected, Go to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options. Turn on the OEM Unlock Option.
• Now, go to Device Unlock Status. Here you need to select the option Add Account and Device. That will bind the device with your account. Now, turn your phone off. But before, make sure you back up all of your data somewhere.

Unlock the Bootloader

• On your computer, right click on the MiFlash tool and run it as administrator.
• Fill up your MIUI account details, and the tool will check if you have a permission to unlock the bootloader. If everything is OK, it will give you instructions to connect your device in fastboot mode. To do so, press the volume down key + Power button until a fastboot screen shows up.
• Now, the MiFlash tool will ask you for permissions. Grant them, and you are almost there. Within 5 minutes it should unlock your Redmi Note 5 Pro bootloader. In some rare cases, it may show a message saying try after 72 or 360 hours. In that case, you will have to wait and try again later.

Guide on how to unlock bootloader, install custom recovery and root Mi 5X

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

1. Let’s assume you’ve just bought Xiaomi Mi 5X phone and finally get it in your hands.
2. Start with creating Mi-Account or use the existing one.
3. Request unlock bootloader permission from official MIUI website.
4. Enable developer options and open them, go to “MiUnlock status”, press “Add account and device”.
5. If account was successfully added you should skip the 6 step, if account wasn’t added continue to the next step.
6. Install Google Services from Mi App Store, next download and install VPN Turbo v.1.3, select “China” region and enable VPN Turbo.
7. Now go back to developer options and try adding your account once again. With enabled VPN everything should work perfectly fine.
8. Now you’ll need to wait 72 hours before unlocking the bootloader on Mi 5X.

In case you’ve got Stable ROM installed on your device and nothing works, then try downloading and flashing to Developer ROM using the updater app on your phone.

1. Now let’s assume 72 hours has passed and now we can continue with unlocking the bootloader on Mi 5X phone.
2. Download and install MiFlash Unlock 2.3.803.10: miflash_unlock-en-2.3.803.10.zip
3. Open Mi Unlock tool and sign into your Mi Account.
4. Boot your Mi 5X in fastboot mode and connect to PC via USB cable.
5. Now you can unlock the bootloader.
6. To flash TWRP Custom Recovery on your Mi 5X phone, first of all you’ll need to download TWRP and copy downloaded twrp .img file to the Mi Unlock folder.
7. Boot your phone in fastboot mode, go to Mi Unlock folder and press “Shift” + “Right mouse” buttons at the same time, then select “Open command window here”.
8. In the opened command window type these commands (where twrp.img is the name of custom recovery .img file):

   fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
   fastboot boot twrp.img

9. Your phone will be automatically booted in TWRP custom recovery mode.
10. Go to “Wipe” menu and swipe to continue.
11. Go to “Install” menu and select downloaded ROM. Swipe to confirm installation.
12. Again go to “Wipe” and wipe “Dalvik / Cache” after ROM installation.
13. If you also want to enable root, you should download SuperSU 2.82 and copy .zip archive to phone memory before flashing, then in the end go to “Install” menu, select previously copied .zip archive and swipe to confirm installation.
14. Reboot into system.
15. Good luck in your experiments and have fun with your Xiaomi smartphone!

Solution for 86006 Error – Unlocking bootloader on Xiaomi Mi Max 2

1. So, let’s assume you’ve got official MIUI ROM on your device, got the official unlock permission and you’ve downloaded and installed Mi Unlock.
2. Go to official MIUI website and download Developer ROM version for your Mi Max 2 phone.
3. Now copy downloaded .zip archive to your phone.
4. On your phone, go to “Updater” app and press three dots icon. Select Developer ROM .zip file.
5. Your phone should reboot.

Unlock bootloader on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition

How to officially unlock Redmi Note 3 Special Edition?

Basically, this tutorial will also work for all other Xiaomi phone models. So you can use it to officially unlock other devices. The phones which doesn’t have “OEM Unlock” option, simply skip this step. You will also required to request an official unlock permission from MIUI before continuing to the steps below. This was tested on Develop ROM 6.10.13 and 6.11.3.

1. Go to Settings > Additional > Developer Options > Enable OEM Unlock
2. Now back to Settings > Additional > Developer Options > Mi Unlock Status > In the bottom select “Add device and account”. The phone and Mi Account will automatically sync.
3. After successful unlock you can remove your Mi account (optionally).

Another method of unlocking bootloader on Redmi Note 3 Pro SE

1. First, don’t forget to make all required backups of your device.
2. Remove or disable all security pins from your device (fingerprint lock, pin-code, graphic key etc…)
3. Make factory reset on your device.
4. Open MiFlash tool and flash this ROM (don’t forget to select “clean all” option). Here’s a tutorial on how you can flash Redmi Note 3 Pro SE with MiFlash.
5. Go to Settings > About phone > tap a few times on “MIUI version” to enable developer options.
6. Go to Settings > Additional > Developer Options and and enable “OEM Unlock” and “USB debug”.
7. Grab your phone and sign into your Xiaomi account.
8. Now on your PC go to Xiaomi website and also sign into the same Mi account.
9. Press “Find device” (it could be not found, but press the button anyways.)
10. Download MiUnlock, install and enter your Mi account credentials.
11. Reboot into fastboot mode (turn off your phone > press “Volume Down” and “Power” button at the same time and hold until fastboot logo appears on the screen).
12. Next connect your phone to PC and press “Unlock” button in MiUnlock.
13. That’s pretty much it! You’ve successfully unlocked the bootloader on your Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition phone.

How to fix bootloop and unlock bootloader on 6.7.14 Developer ROM

Here’s a method that might help you to restore bootlooped and finally unlock bootloader on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition. In case you’ve installed a MIUI Dev ROM 6.7.14 to unlock the bootloader, but instead got a bootloop on your Redmi Note 3 SE, try following the tutorial below:

1. First, don’t forget to make all required backups of your device.
2. Remove or disable all security pins from your device (fingerprint lock, pin-code, graphic key etc…)
3. Make factory reset on your device.
4. Open MiFlash tool and flash this ROM (don’t forget to select “clean all” option). Here’s a tutorial on how you can flash Redmi Note 3 Pro SE with MiFlash.
   1. Download and unpack to C:\ drive: Boot and recovery.zip
   2. Install MiFlashSetup.msi
   3. Boot your device in fastboot mode.
   4. Open “fastboot_edl” folder and run edl.cmd, you device will reboot in EDL mode.
   5. In MiFlash locate the “Firmware” folder, press “save user data” and flash your phone!
   6. That’s it! Now your phone is alive again and you can flash any other ROM version.
   7. This archive Boot and recovery.zip flashes the patched unofficial unlocked bootloader as well as TWRP Recovery. This is also the most fastest way to install custom ROM on your phone. In case TWRP asks for a password, this is absolutely normal. That means the you’ve encrypted data partition. You’ll need to make a full wipe or manually format /data partition. Pay attention that after /data partition format all apps and settings will be deleted.
5. After you’ve flashed your Redmi Note 3 Pro SE device, boot in recovery and make factory reset.
6. Reboot into system.
7. Sync to Mi Account and turn off your device.
8. Extract “dummy”, “emmc_appsboot”, “recovery” & “prog_emmc_firehose_8976_ddr” files from 6.7.14 ROM, move them to “boot and recovery” folder and flash your phone once again with MiFlash tool.
9. Boot into fastboot and unlock your device with MiUnlock tool.
10. After you’ve successfully unlocked your phone, you can easily install the latest official Global ROM on your phone.

How to downgrade Mi4S from Android 7.0 to Android 5.1

What’s required?

• If you’ve got unofficially unlocked bootloader, you’ll need to use your PC.
• If you’ve got officially unlocked bootloader, you need downloaded TWRP for Android 5.1, the PC will not be required.
• In both cases, you’ll need Android 5.1 ROM.
• Important! This method is not working on 8.2.1.0 MIUI ROM version. Roll back to earlier version!

In TWRP Custom Recovery, without rebooting your device.

• Wipe > Swipe to confirm.
• Install > Flash Android 5.1. > Swipe to confirm.

If you’ve got officially unlocked bootloader:

• Install > Install .img > TWRP for Android 5.1 > Recovery > Swipe to confirm.
• Reboot > Recovery.
• Reboot into system.

If you’ve got unofficially unlocked bootloader:

• Reboot into bootloader.
• Unofficially unlock bootloader and install TWRP Custom Recovery again.
• Reboot into system.

After that, you can return to the TWRP Custom Recovery and restore Android 5.1 backup.

How to unofficially unlock bootloader on Xioami Mi4S

1. Download and install MiFlash tool.
2. Enter EDL mode by typing these commands:

   adb reboot edl

3. Download unlock patch and install via MiFlash tool (select “Flash all except data and storage”): unlock.zip
4. Now after we’ve unlocked bootloader, we can install TWRP Custom Recovery.
5. Download and unpack this archive: twrp (1).zip
6. Boot your device in fastboot mode (press and hold “Volume down” and “Power” button), connect your device to PC and run flash.bat
7. Wait until TWRP recovery start, confirm with everything and select English language.

[Guide] Unlock OnePlus 3 Bootloader

1. Download and install all required drivers on your PC.
2. Download and install ADB / fastboot tools. Below you can find a detailed tutorial on how to install ADB / fastboot drivers for OnePlus 3 device.
3. On your device open “Developer options” and enable “OEM-Unlock” and “USB debugging”.
4. Additionally, you can enable extended reboot option and reboot your device in Bootloader (fastboot).
5. Boot your device in fastboot mode. To do this manually: turn off your device completely, press and hold “Volume Up” and “Power” buttons at the same time, after a few seconds you should see a fastboot logo on the screen.
6. Connect your device to PC via USB cable.
7. Open command window. Go to the folder with unpacked ADB / fastboot tools, hold “Shift” key + right mouse button and select “Open command window here”.
8. Now enter this command to see the list of connected devices:

   Fastboot devices

9. If you see your device serial number in the command window you can continue to the next step. If you device is not identified then check if all the drivers are installed correctly.
10. Now enter the following command to unlock the bootloader on your OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T device. Pay attention! This will delete all data from your phone! Don’t forget to make all required backups:

    Fastboot oem unlock

11. Now confirm bootloader unlocking by selecting “YES” on your device. Use volume keys to navigate and press “Power” button to confirm.
12. Your device will reboot.
13. Congratulations! OnePlus 3 device is now unlocked.

How to lock bootloader on OnePlus 3

In case you need to lock bootloader again, repeat the same steps as above, but in the step 10 we use another command “Fastboot oem lock”. Important! You can’t lock the bootloader with custom recovery installed on your device or you’ll get the hardbrick.

How to install ADB / fastboot tools for OnePlus 3

1. Download adb-setup-1.4.3.exe
2. Install as administrator.
3. Wait until installation is finished.

How to unlock bootloader on Xiaomi smartphone after receiving official permission

First thing that you must pay attention to. To unlock bootloader you must have Weekly Developer MIUI ROM version installed on your device. If your MI account is old enough you can try unlock your device on Stable ROM, but this is rarely works.

Link your Xiaomi phone to the Mi account for which you have acquired permission. To avoid “stuck at 50% unlocking” error after logging into your account, do some random actions with this account, for example find your phone on the site i.mi.com.

2. On the first startup click “Agree”.

7. Now in the main TWRP menu press “Install” and select ROM .zip file and add SuperSU in order in case you want to root your Redmi 3S device. Activate reboot after install. Wait until installation process is completed.
8. Congratulations! You’ve flashed custom ROM with root enabled.

How to update custom ROM on Redmi 3S

Allow to modify system partition in TWRP custom recovery.

1. Boot into TWRP custom recovery.
2. Wipe required partitions. If you’re updating the same ROM, you can only wipe “Cache”. If you’re flashing custom ROM from another developer than you should wipe each partition except MicroSD and OTG.
3. Download custom ROM you want to flash or update.
4. Connect your Redmi 3S device to PC or laptop and copy custom ROM .zip archive and SuperSU Stable (copy SuperSU if you want to root your device) to MicroSD card. Disconnect your device from PC.
5. “Reboot” > “Recovery”;
6. Now in the main TWRP menu press “Install” and select ROM .zip file and SuperSU. Activate reboot after install. Wait until installation process is completed.

How to unlock bootloader on Redmi Note 4X

As far as we know you can’t get official unlock permission on ROM version 8.1.15.0 or 8.1.10.0. But you may still try it and send your request, who knows what might happens.

We will be flashing our Redmi Note 4X to developer ROM. But since we can’t use EDL mode and we don’t want to cut the cables, this is what we’re going to do:

1. Download ADB, MiFlash and MiUnlock tools (you can find download links below).
2. Install everything you’ve downloaded from the list above.
3. Download Redmi Note 4X Developer ROM 7.2.16 and TWRP Recovery (download links below).

Flash Developer ROM on Redmi Note 4X

1. We will be flashing Redmi Note 4X Developer ROM 7.2.16 we’ve downloaded previously.
2. Copy the downloaded ROM file to phone internal memory.
3. Use “Updater” app to flash Developer ROM 7.2.16. (require WiFi access)
4. After successful flashing of Dev ROM, go to “Settings” and make factory reset.

How to Official Unlock Redmi Note 4X

1. After device reboots connect to WiFi network and sign in into your Mi Account.
2. Go to the “Settings” > “About” and tap on Miui version a few times to enable developer options.
   1. Now go to “Settings” > “Additional” > “Developer options” > Disable OEM Unlock
   2. Now go to “Settings” > “Additional” > “Developer options” > Mi Unlock Status > In the bottom of the screen press “Add device and account”. Your device will be added and Mi account will sync.
3. Then follow to our complete guide on how to unlock bootloader after getting official unlock permission from MIUI.

How to Flash Recovery on Redmi Note 4X

1. Start your device in fastboot mode (turn off > press and hold “Power” and “Volume Up” buttons until fastboot logo appears).
2. Open the folder with installed MiFlash and follow this path: MiFlash\Source\ThirdParty\Google\Android.
3. Now in this folder press “Shift” + Right mouse button and select “Open terminal window”.
4. Connect your device via USB and check connection status by entering fastboot devices command.
5. Now extract recovery to the folder from where we’ve previously opened terminal window.
6. Type and enter fastboot flash recovery recovery.img command. “recovery” stands for the partition we will be flashing, and “recovery.img” is the name of the recovery file.
7. After recovery flash is completed, enter fastboot reboot to reboot your device.

UPD: Possible solution on how to fix 10008 API error:

You MUST flash 7.2.16 ROM, then go to the section “How to Official Unlock Redmi Note 4X” and Skip Step 2. Then follow the standard unlocking procedure using MiUnlock.

Short information about different ROM versions:

• Global MIUI Rom starts from 8, 8.3 or 8.3.1
• Developer ROM version start from the year it has been released.

In case your Mi account is old enough, you may try to unlock even on a Stable ROM version, but this happens very rarely. In case you aren’t able to get unlock permission, then you are required to flash Weekly Developer ROM.

There are exceptions for a couple of devices: Mi4c and Mi Note Pro device comes with unlocked bootloader. You’ll need to flash China Developer ROM version, got bootloader locked again, and then request permission to unlock bootloader. Waiting time in this case is around 4-8 days, and all that time Mi Unlock will be showing “Current account is different from the account info on the device” message.

How to unlock bootloader after getting official unlock permission from MIUI

1. Sign in into your Mi account with enabled unlock permission. It’s recommended to make some random actions related to this account, for example sign in and find your device here http://www.i.mi.com/, this helps to avoid stuck at 50% bootloader unlock issue.
2. Download and extract MiFlashUnlock (download link below).
3. Start MiFlashUnlock and press “Accept”.
4. Then sign in with your Mi account with unlock permission.
5. Turn off your device completely.
6. Press “Power” and “Volume -” buttons and wait for rabbit logo to appear.
7. Now connect your device to PC and press “Unlock” to start the unlocking process.
8. If all three boxes are highlighted, then you’ve successfully unlocked a bootloader on your Xiaomi device! If not you should visit MIUI forum and ask for additional help.

On Redmi 3 & Redmi Note 3 device you can check bootloader status by going to “Settings” > “About” > tap 5 times on kernel version and look for fastboot lock state. If you see “unlock” then you have unlocked device, if “lock” than bootloader is locked.
