1. First of all you’ll need to unlock the bootloader on your phone. The process of unlocking Redmi Note 5A is just like unlocking any other Mi phone. Browse our website for the full guidance. In case you’ve got locked bootloader, you can’t proceed with TWRP installation.
2. Download TWRP Custom Recovery (find download links in the bottom of this post) and unpack downloaded .zip archive to “C:\”.
3. Start your device in fastboot mode (press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” buttons at the same time) and connect to PC via USB 2.0.
4. Open the folder with unpacked TWRP and run “Flash-TWRP” file.
5. Wait until installation is fully completed and your phone will automatically reboot into TWRP.
6. Confirm partition modifications by right swipe and enter main menu.
7. In the main menu, go to “Wipe” > “Advanced Wipe” and select Dalvik, System, Data, Internal Storage and Cache partitions. Swipe to confirm wipe.
8. Return to main menu screen.
9. Important step! Now go to “Reboot” and tap on “Recovery”, swipe to confirm. If you skip this step, most probably the “Data” partition will be encrypted.
10. After phone reboots into recovery, you can connect it to your PC via USB cable and copy downloaded multilingual ROM, Xiaomi.eu for example.
11. Go to “Reboot” > “Recovery” once again and swipe to confirm.
12. After reboot go to “Install” menu, select the archive with ROM files and swipe to confirm ROM installation.
13. After ROM is successfully installed, tap on the “Reboot System”. Your phone will automatically reboot.
14. Enjoy your newly installed ROM!

2. Install ADB drivers, if you haven’t done that previously.
3. Copy downloaded custom recovery .img file to the folder with ADB files and rename .img file to “recovery.img”.
4. In the folder with ADB files, press and hold “Shift” key and click right mouse button, in the menu select “Open command window here”.
5. Reboot your device in fastboot mode and connect to PC.
6. Type in the command window:

How to use TWRP Installer Tool?

1. First of all unlock the bootloader here http://en.miui.com/unlock
2. You should have Redmi 3S device with Android 6.0 installed.
3. Download TWRP Installer tool and unpack downloaded archive.
4. Start “twrp-installer.bat”.
5. Start your phone in fastboot mode and follow the instructions on the screen.
6. After installation is completed, your phone will automatically boot into TWRP Recovery. On the first startup you will see a confirmation message “Keep System Read Only?”:
   • If you select “Mount system partition read-only”, you can receive OTA updates for official MIUI ROMs.
   • If you swipe to confirm system partition modification, you’ll need to do additional thing, go to “Advanced settings” and enable “Disable dm-verify”. Otherwise your device will stuck at Mi logo while starting.
7. Now you can reboot into system or continue working with TWRP Custom Recovery.

1. You must have unlocked bootloader!

   • Android 7: TWRP_3.1.1-0_Redmi4x_7.zip
4. Reboot into fastboot mode by pressing “Volume Down” and “Power” buttons at the same time.
5. Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
6. Start the “Flash-Redmi 4x TWRP.bat” file from unpacked TWRP archive.
7. Confirm installation by pressing “Enter” button on your keyboard.
8. In the end your device will automatically boot into custom recovery mode.
9. Pay attention that if you’re installing TWRP without flashing new ROM, go to “Advanced” > “Tools” and disable boot partition encryption, otherwise official ROM won’t start.

How to flash Official MiFlash .img ROM using TWRP Custom Recovery

1. First of all – backup your current system, so you can restore everything just in case!
2. Then copy download ROM files (system.img, cust.img, boot.img) to SD card.
3. Boot into TWRP and go to “Wipe” > “Advanced” and select “Dalvik/ART Cache, Cache, Data, Cust”. Swipe to confirm.
4. Go to “Install” menu and select our ROM files:
   1. Select “system.img” and flash “System” partition.

Guide on how to unlock bootloader, install custom recovery and root Mi 5X

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

1. Let’s assume you’ve just bought Xiaomi Mi 5X phone and finally get it in your hands.
2. Start with creating Mi-Account or use the existing one.
3. Request unlock bootloader permission from official MIUI website.
4. Enable developer options and open them, go to “MiUnlock status”, press “Add account and device”.
5. If account was successfully added you should skip the 6 step, if account wasn’t added continue to the next step.
6. Install Google Services from Mi App Store, next download and install VPN Turbo v.1.3, select “China” region and enable VPN Turbo.
7. Now go back to developer options and try adding your account once again. With enabled VPN everything should work perfectly fine.
8. Now you’ll need to wait 72 hours before unlocking the bootloader on Mi 5X.

In case you’ve got Stable ROM installed on your device and nothing works, then try downloading and flashing to Developer ROM using the updater app on your phone.

1. Now let’s assume 72 hours has passed and now we can continue with unlocking the bootloader on Mi 5X phone.
2. Download and install MiFlash Unlock 2.3.803.10: miflash_unlock-en-2.3.803.10.zip
3. Open Mi Unlock tool and sign into your Mi Account.
4. Boot your Mi 5X in fastboot mode and connect to PC via USB cable.
5. Now you can unlock the bootloader.
6. To flash TWRP Custom Recovery on your Mi 5X phone, first of all you’ll need to download TWRP and copy downloaded twrp .img file to the Mi Unlock folder.
7. Boot your phone in fastboot mode, go to Mi Unlock folder and press “Shift” + “Right mouse” buttons at the same time, then select “Open command window here”.
8. In the opened command window type these commands (where twrp.img is the name of custom recovery .img file):

   fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
   fastboot boot twrp.img

9. Your phone will be automatically booted in TWRP custom recovery mode.
10. Go to “Wipe” menu and swipe to continue.
11. Go to “Install” menu and select downloaded ROM. Swipe to confirm installation.
12. Again go to “Wipe” and wipe “Dalvik / Cache” after ROM installation.
13. If you also want to enable root, you should download SuperSU 2.82 and copy .zip archive to phone memory before flashing, then in the end go to “Install” menu, select previously copied .zip archive and swipe to confirm installation.
14. Reboot into system.

Here’s a short step-by-step tutorial on how to use Flash Toolkit:

1. Download and install minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.4.1_setup.exe
2. Optionally download SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip and copy “Download” folder on your phone in case you want to enable root.
3. Turn on your phone and connect to PC via USB-cable.

Alternative method of installing TWRP Custom Recovery on Redmi Pro

1. Download and unpack Android.rar
2. Copy unpacked folder to “C:\” drive.
3. Enable developer options (go to “Setting” > “About phone” > and tap a few times on MIUI version). Now go to “Developer options” menu and enable USB-debugging.
4. Open “C:\Android” folder.

2. Rename downloaded file update.zip
3. Copy to internal SD-card memory.
4. Boot into recovery mode (turn off your phone, and press “Power” and “Volume +” buttons at the same time).
5. Select “update zip from SD-card”.
6. After successful installation, turn off your phone and boot into recovery once again. This time your phone should boot into TWRP.

1. Start with downloading TWRP Recovery for Xiaomi Mi6 from the links below or any other source.
2. Unpack downloaded archive into “C:\twrp” or something similar.
3. Now boot your device in fastboot mode and connect to PC via USB.
4. Open command window from the folder with TWRP files.
5. In command window type “Fastboot devices”.
6. If your device is identified successfully type “Fastboot flash recovery”. Add another space after “recovery” and drag and drop TWRP file into Command prompt window. You should see full path to recovery. 9. If TWRP boots in Chinese language, you’ll need to manually change it to English.
   • Press the second button on the third line to enter TWRP settings > Press the globe icon > Change language to English.
10. To boot into recovery, turn off your device and press “Volume Up” + “Power”. Otherwise open “Updater” app and select “Reboot into recovery”.
